Aortic valve replacement is a surgical procedure used to treat diseases affecting the aortic valve, one of the four valves that control blood flow through your heart. The aortic valve helps the blood to flow in the right direction through the heart. However, it separates the heart's main pumping chamber (the left ventricle) and the main artery that supplies oxygenated blood to the person's body (the aorta). With each contraction of the ventricle, your aortic valve opens and allows blood to flow from the left ventricle into the aorta. When the ventricle relaxes, the aortic valve closes to prevent your blood from flowing backward into the ventricle. The smallest problem of the heart should not be ignored, but the doctor should be contacted. The heart plays a very important role in a person's body. If the person has any kind of problem with the aortic valve of the heart or the mitral valve of the heart, then the doctor may suggest you get the heart surgery, so that the complicated problem can be avoided. What is an Aortic valve ? When the aortic valve opens in the body, blood goes from the patient's heart to the aorta and other parts of the body. When a person's aortic valve closes, it prevents blood from returning the wrong way to your heart. Apart from this, this cycle keeps on repeating with every beat. If something goes wrong with this valve, the doctor recommends replacing it immediately. In today's article, we are going to tell you about the TAVR method of aortic valve replacement. Also we will be telling you about the aortic valve surgery, why it is needed, and life after aortic valve surgery. What is aortic valve surgery? Aortic valve surgery is also called aortic valve replacement surgery. It is a kind of surgical procedure. Performed in cases of aortic regurgitation (when the valve does not close properly and there is a backflow of blood) or aortic stenosis (when it does not open properly for the outflow of blood). It is basically this replacement surgery to remove the aortic valve. Why is aortic valve surgery performed ? According to the doctor, aortic valve surgery is required if the patient has the following symptoms. feeling of pain in the chest feeling of tightness around the chest shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing feeling tired with increased activity fainting or dizziness abnormal heart sounds palpitations leg and ankle swelling How is life after aortic valve surgery ? After this heart surgery, a person has to take special care of his lifestyle. Such as what is included in the food and what is not, etc., the instructions given by the doctor should be followed, so that the patient can be helped in a quick recovery. The patient's blood pressure level and heart are checked. Apart from this, the patient is kept for care in the hospital for a few days, where the doctor and his team takes special care of the patient. The doctor forbids the patient to drive himself. Although after a few weeks depending on your recovery, the doctor may give some instructions. A person needs to make some lifestyle changes for faster and better recovery. You can include daily exercise and walking in your lifestyle. If you smoke and consume alcohol, then it is advised to change these habits for a healthy heart and longer living. Try to stay away from stress as much as possible. What is the TAVI or Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVR) method? The transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVR) method is used for the elderly. However, during a minimally invasive procedure, a new valve is inserted without removing the old and damaged valve. The doctor places the new valve inside the diseased valve. This type of surgery may be called transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) or transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). What are the tests done for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI)? The doctor may ask the patient to undergo the following tests before the TAVI procedure- Chest X-rays- This is the imaging technique used to view the images of the internal organs like heart, lungs, etc. before the procedure of TAVI. Transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) - Also known as Echo, this is the ultrasound technique used to get the 3-D images of the heart. MRI- This test also gives detailed pictures of the heart. Pulmonary/ Lung function tests- These tests are done to measure the capacity and functioning of the lungs. They measure how well the lungs are able to supply oxygen to the blood. CT scans- This is the X-ray technique where a contrast medium is injected into the blood vessels through the IV line and detailed pictures of the heart and blood vessels are taken. Angiogram- Another imaging technique that uses X-rays and dyes to view how well the blood flows through arteries and veins. What is the procedure of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI)? Transcatheter aortic valve implantation is performed to replace the d
