Thinking about joining a gym? Many people are intimidated by the thought of going into a gym. Many of these same people have never set foot in a gym - so where do you begin? It is important to remember that any fitness facility(gym) is simply a place with equipment and professionals that are there to help you. Here are some questions to keep in mind as you search for a quality gym: 1. Does a health professional perform a health screening/assessment and ask questions about your health prior to your first workout? 2. Does the facility(gym) have emergency procedures? Are the professionals trained in CPR and first-aid? Is there an automatic defibrillator at the site and is the staff trained to use it? 3. Are the professionals at the facility qualified? Is their experience in the area of training that you require? 4. Does the facility belong to a professional association? 5. Is the equipment maintained and cleaned? 6. Are there clear/descriptive instructions at each machine, in case a professional/staff is unavailable? 7. If you participate in cardio classes, does the center have flooring that acts as a shock absorber? 8. Are the facitlity/gym hours of operation convenient for you? Is the location of the facility convenient for you? 9. Do they have the type of equipment that you like to use? If not, can they offer something similar? 10. Do you feel comfortable with the members/professionals and staff? Their age, level of training and productivity while at the center? Don't be pressured into joining immediately, take a little time and think it through. When you find a facility that you are comfortable with and that suits your needs, your training experience will be enjoyable and successful.. What are you waiting for? Isn't it time to...
