Weight has been an issue for me since I was 15 years old. Up until that age, I was a tall, slender, blonde hair, blue eyed attractive and very energetic girl. What caused me to gain over 100 lbs. may never return to my consciousness. For the next 40 years, I struggled every single day with being obese. I was unhappy, had no self-confidence and the cute boys I had crushes on, never looked in my direction. My mother took things into her hands and drove me 40 miles a week to a diet support meeting and I lost 55 pounds. From that year on, my weight yo-yoed up and down so many times that I lost count. I had pockets of time where my weight was down enough to gain some self-confidence and then return to even heavier weight than ever. I got married twice, divorced twice, gave birth to three beautiful children and now have two grandsons whom I adore. The turning point in my life was when I made up my mind to get my second divorce. Unfortunately, to get to that decisive point, I had to walk through depths of depression I had never before experienced. I never had time to deal with my emotions or what I wanted for myself because I was still raising children, working full time and maintaining a household. I devoted every moment to the care and comfort of my family. However, when my youngest child graduated from high school in May, depression rushed to the forefront and demanded my attention. Though I did try to ignore it and tell myself this was not happening, by November my body started shutting down. I experienced pain from my ears that the doctors could not explain. The pain was so severe they put me on strong narcotic pain relievers that kept me knocked out and I ended up missing a whole week of work. Because of the pain, I went to the emergency room twice and then to an ear, nose and throat doctor. The emergency room doctor said the pain could have been coming from my clinching my jaws at night. When he asked me if I was under a lot of stress, the flood gates opened and I started crying uncontrollably which initiated a call to a crisis control counselor. I actually felt relief that it had come to that point. The crisis counselor wanted to hospitalize me but I convinced her that would cause me more problems because I could not miss that much work. The counselor gave me the name of a psychiatrist who could work me in the following Monday. Meeting with the psychiatrist was the pathway back to my life. He, too, wanted to hospitalize me but I talked him into treating me for two weeks with antidepressants and see what happens. He set me up with a psychotherapist who was a literal answer to prayer. Through sessions with her, I was able to uncover all the issues that were keeping me from achieving my pre-marital happiness and “stop at nothing” attitude. I was never hospitalized and within just a few weeks, my power and confidence returned. I filed for divorce, moved out and was actually dating by May of the next year. My therapist told me I WAS capable of losing the weight that had controlled most of my life. She said to find a simple, easy to follow plan and to just start walking. I did, and this is where I want to tell you about the Cruise Control Die!. It is so simple, inexpensive and quickly becomes an essential part of your day.
