TE's are great but their management sometimes....

I'm a member of many ( maybe around 60) TE's and list builders and actively promote them. Several of my favorite's have recently disappeared, including Astronaut Ads, Insomnia ads, Champion text ads, Epic traffic Boss and of all things Residual Earners Club (REC).
These sites all disappeared without notice, most having over 1000 members. I know I put in a lot of time promoting sites like these and to have them vanish just because of what I assume is mismanagement and not budgeting to have enough money to pay hosting fees is crazy. REC for example, had the largest range of advertising available in any TE I'm a member of, and I personally had a down line of 22 folks on that site and paid to JV level - now history!
Has anyone else had similar experiences?
And I ask how could someone with a site of over 1000 members turn their back so easy? I know I personally would do everything in my power to keep people/subscribers who support me happy!
I believe the TE's have their place and are great for what they are designed for - "Advertising Advertising to Advertisers". (Quote from Doug Forbes at Conversion Surf).
Rant mode off - thanks for listening.

I know there are a lot of responsible TE owners out there who do work hard to make their TE's the best and deliver value. I guess it is a lesson in getting to know who the owner is, what is there branding like, how do they communicate with the field, are they socially active. I am very cautions about joining sites that I don't really know anything about.

I agree with Nancy. It is hard work. A TE needs to be monitored so that members do not need to wait ages to get a site approved or a support ticket answered. I agree with Nancy that giving away too much is not good. I take building my TE very seriously and doing my best to make it better and better.

@ Nancy - That's exactly what i mean. People think it is easy to own these sites and earn money with it, but it is a real hard business and you have to work a lot.

Interesting and I'm here to stay and am one of those owners that will keep doing what I can to keep my sites active - I own TE's, TAE and PTC and it is lot of work and most just think that because they own the site that the money will just pour in - it's not that way - I work very hard and long hours keeping my sites active - the other mistake that I see is that owners give away too much and then their site becomes dead - if you give away too many credits then no one has a reason to surf - ther

Good point Christian, hopefully threads like those in this group will give us some feedback on the quality stable sites, worthy of promoting and supporting. It's hard to tell when they are just starting up, thanks.

I think the main problem with TEs and TAEs are that people just buy a script and start their own one. They don't think about costs for hosting and how they will earn money with the site. Everyday you will find a bunch of new TEs and TAEs but most of them will not survive for a long time.
