Comments can be Crucial
Anyone who writes a blog or an article, does so in hopes of some response. Whether that response is an action, such as directing someone to a website, or a product, or just a written comment. A written comment is great feedback, if the comment is thought out and sincere. Just a "nice post" comment, is a terrible disappointment to the writer. It is generic, and doesn't give the writer any feedback, as to whether there post was of interest or not.
Speaking personally for myself, when I recieve "nice post" comments, I am immediately turned off from the person that left the comment, and will have no interest in anything they may write. remember, traffic is the key, and if you can't be thoughtful in your commenting, many will not be thoughtful in visiting your articles or posts.

Raymond, I do agree with the quick comments as for the most part it's just spam. There are cases where someone spends time on one of my websites which I get the information from their IP from the analytical info.
It is my job as a writer to trigger a deeper response. If I draw any real attention it is a good thing in my opinion because I will trigger them at some point. It's like meeting a beautiful woman...you start off with small talk then days later you have long talks on the phone etc...
