Mainly, my favorite method of travel is walking, (which is the best exercise) and that is then followed by trains, boats, airplanes and automobiles. My least favorite method of travel is by city bus, the small streets and big traffic and potholes in this town can make bus commuting seem like a noisy, grinding nightmare, with each stop annoyingly, eerily narrated by a digital voiceover... Occasionally though, something wonderful does happen on these trips, such as the time I had to bring a large bag of "vittles" home and I had no choice but to ride the bus for 30 blocks... As I entered the bus and paid my fare, I could tell that the driver was in a very bad mood. He grunted and muttered cusses under his breath, mostly at the traffic but sometimes at the passengers as they entered and exited... I had the misfortune of sitting directly across from him, because the bus was crowded and all of the seats were occupied, except for the long "senior citizens" bench to his right. Sitting directly across from me, and to the rear of the driver, was an older man, kind of thinly built, with that placid look of guy who's seen a lot and maybe lost a lot, in life. I instantly went into my "people reading mode" (it's instinctive and can occur without warning) and just started sensing the vibrations of some of the other riders on the bus... Some good, some bad or very busy... Most seemed zombified by life ect. Then I turned back to the older guy and I felt kind a sadness emanating from him, perhaps a longing for one more chance at excitement, vibrancy or even simple joy... This can be overwhelming for me, as my sensitivity runs really deep. I can sense distress like a barometer senses changes in the climate... The bus was making jackrabbit starts and stops, it's motions perfectly expressing the foul mood of the driver, as he pulled close to the curb to pick up more passengers... That's when this rather large lady slowly and clumsily boarded the bus, her weight evidently making even this normally simple step into a monumental task... As she held on to the safety pole behind the driver, she began to fumble through her purse for her fare... This delay really irritated the bus driver and he hit the accelerator to make his point. The bus jerked forward, causing the woman to swing around the safety pole,stripper-style, and land her big butt right in the lap of the thin, older guy! He let out a WHOOFF, as the air was suddenly squeezed out of him by this surprising encounter... Almost everyone on the bus cracked up and I let a surpressed chuckle escape my mouth, too. Then I realised that the guy finally did get some excitement, a break in the bordom-- Maybe just what he needed... I silently and gratefully thanked the Universe for him... It's all good!:)
