Steps in Buying a Pre-Owned Vehicle
February 20, 2008
Hello,
Steps in Buying a Pre-Owned Vehicle:
Why buy a used vehicle instead of a new vehicle. This is one of the most important question you need to ask yourself. The main reason to buy a used vehicle is the availability of good late model vehicles that's available in the automotive market. Did you know that you can save thousands of dollars on a pre owned vehicle, as oppose to buying a New Vehicle. Buying a pre owned vehicle makes good financial sense, because someone else has already paid for the vehicle's most drastic depreciation in it's current value. Other then emotional state of mind there is no logical reason for you to spend your very hard earned money on a new vehicle.
Now that you have decided to purchase a pre owned vehicle, you need to ask yourself some very important questions about what type of vehicle that will make the most economical sense to you and your needs. Here some of the important reasons you will need to determine what type of vehicle you really need.
What will l be using this vehicle for, transportation of equipment, pets etc.?
What is my realistic budget that l can afford?
What is the cost going to be for me to insure this vehicle?
What type of fuel efficient will l get with this vehicle?
Once you have answered the above question you can start the selection process for your pre owned vehicle!
You will need to ask some important questions, when your purchasing a pre owned vehicle. The first question you should always ask is, was this a trade in or was it bought from an auction. The best vehicles are generally the ones that have been traded in by a buyer who just selected a new vehicle from that dealership. These vehicles are labelled in the industry as one owner vehicles, meaning they only had one owner. The next question you will need to ask is if they have the history package on the vehicle your are interested in purchasing. This provides all of the history on that vehicle, when it was sold, who sold, who owned and how many owners and what state or Province it was sold originally in. If the dealership has no information on that vehicle you as a consumer can stay obtain all of the information on that vehicle you have an interest in by going to the carfax web site. The cost is very reasonable and could save you thousands of dollars and many, many headaches with your purchase.
What is Carfax?
Let's talk a bit about what the carfax, information package will provide you with. The search will provide you information on the Title in the states, Ownership in Canada whether the vehicle was rebuilt, salvage, flooded. Odometer check, rolled back, rolled over, fraud or broken. Problem Check, Stolen, any Major Accidents, Fire, Salvage Auction. Registration Check, Fleet Vehicle, Police/Taxi Vehicle, Leased Vehicle, Daily Rental. As you can now appreciate by doing this check it will save you a lot of time and effort for such a small investment, you can get unlimited checks for a month for only $29.95. This is one of the most common mistakes made by a consumer not taking the time to doing his own search and taking the word of a sales person.
Now you have checked all the information made your selection of the vehicle you want. The best way to found your vehicle is shop and compare on the Internet. The best place to found your listings of dealers and vehicles is at "Auto Trader", or use your search engines to provide your local dealers in your area. Once you go there, you can now select the exact vehicle, Year, Make, Model and price you want to spend. This will then search and provide you with the exact information you need and you can now select the dealers you want to visit. This process saves you time, effort and normally gets you exactly what you want for the least, because you are prepared and KNOW what you want. Never buy a vehicle until you have ran a Carafe on your own, always take a day to think about what your buying. This way you do not get caught up in the hype and emotional state of mind. You need to be in a logical state of mind to make the best possible decision for what is best for your needs, not someone else needs.
Now you are ready and prepared to take on the fast talking and not always very smart sales person. Good luck and l hope l helped you save money as well as many major headaches.
If you have any question about your purchase your about to make, l will be more then happy to provided you with answers to any of your question you may have. I have been involved in the Automotive industry for over 25 years of my life. I hope l can provide you with enough logical information for you to make that emotional buying decission.

HI Jean,
Thank you for the kind words. What most consumers don't know at the moment it's a buyers market at the moment. Not only in Pre-Owned Vehicles but also with new one vehicles. The best savings a consumer can have is by buy a 1 or 2 year vehicle. You see this way, you are not the one take the most drastic depreciation on that vehicle. the moment you leave a dealership with a "Brand New Vehicle", as soon as them tires touch the road out. You have just dropped depending on what type

The are a hell of a lot of problems ahead due to those folks--- A weak dollar and slowing economy, plus the Globalization of misery while only the richest of the rich, get richer...
People think that us small business folks don't know much... I saw all of this 8 years ago... with street smarts... Doesn't take much brains to figure out that someone is trying to sell you the same damn coat that they stole right off your own back...

Good article Joseph, with some great advice.
My last car was a 2 y.o. used vehicle, and I've been really happy
with it. Certainly saves on the new car costs, that's for sure.

Hi Jeff,
Actually all l did was specialized in high end vehicles shipping them over seas when are dollar was worth something on the international market. Buying Porsches from Germany then shipping them back to Germany for less then they could buy a brand new one in Germany, how the currency game was played. We also would do the same thing with Lexus from Japan, buy them, then ship them back to Japan to pre sold clients we had. how it would work was very simple a brand new Lexus LX470 in Ja

Certainly good to have a Car Guy on Apsense, JB! :)
These days it pays to get the most out of any vehicle that you buy, especially since your gasoline bills may exceed you car payments every month... I'm not interested in buying any pre-owned vehicles that aren't in the "Luxury" class, because in many cases, these type vehicles have been revamped from top to bottom so much that they can be considered 'New" in many cases... Pre- Owned Porsches and other high end vehicles that are about three
