Star Trek is such a huge scifi classic spanning generations.  There is so much Star trek stuff I want to try to keep it together here.  Anything and everything concerning Star Trek should be posted in this thread.  I really don't want this to turn into the Star Trek group so all Trekkies  post Trek stuff here in this thread.

Are we going to start with the classic question, who's the better captain, Kirk or Picard?

Well you left a few out Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway or Archer. I guess since we are talking about captains you have to throw Christopher Pike in there too!

All of them except Archer and Pike had their pluses in my book. Kirk actually was my least favorite that's more because the original Star Trek is just so 'cheesey' when you hold it up against the newer ones.

Hey Cheryl, this is a great site. The Star Trek shows Enterprise and Voyager in my book are two of the better shows. I think Star Trek has come along way since they can use computers now to enhance the shows special effects. Don't get me wrong, I like the other shows and movies too but I really enjoy the last 2 series.

ACtually I have to be honest I never could get into Enterprise. I think it was because it was too far from canon for me.

That's cool. I like the Enterprise series because it deals with what it was like when they first started exploring space and meeting new cultures. I like how it shows the crew making mistakes and learning how to deal with different situations. I often think that someday it will be possible to travel in space and how much I would like to be there to see everything. Wouldn't that be awesome?

That would be awesome. Unfortunately we still have a lot of work to do getting our act together right here on Earth. Hopefully we can and will get to that point.

I love them all! lol. Seriously best writers in Hollywood have been writing for that series for years! Just pure talent, Ok her is some trivia. In the original series, due to low budget, some of the bridge furniture was from Gene's own dining room set he and his wife had bought for their home. Cardboard sets and dining room chairs, what a humble beginning for such an iconic show.

Trivia Question. The orginal show aired for two years I think and was on the verge of being canceled due to budget cuts etc. What saved the show and pushed it to the top of the chart?

Star Trek first aired in 1966 but before the end of their first season their ratings were low and there was talk of canceling the show. Believe it or not, Lucille Ball is the one credited with saving the show.

Syndication is how they got to the iconic level they enjoy today. Lucille Ball? Really? Cool, William and Lenard didn't mention that in the Star Trek special, I may have missed it when I went to get a snack, lol. So Lucy was a trekkie? Cool. :-)

Lucy was one smart redhead. Desilu was at the forefront of Syndication. in addition to producing first run shows.

I agree with you %100 Cheryl. Lucy was one smart redhead. Here is something else I learned. Did you know that Leonard McCoy was not the original Dr. on Star Trek? On the first 2 pilots, there was a "Dr. Mark Piper" played by Paul Fix. DeForest Kelley joined the cast after they started filming the first season.

And William Shatner also joined the cast with the first season. The Pilot actually had Captain Christopher Pike(Jeffrey Hunter) in command of the enterprise and Spock was simply the science officer. Second in command was 'Number One' played by Majel Barrett Roddenberry. TNG gave a nod to that role by Picard often referring to Riker as number one.

The original pilot called The Cage however was not scrapped. Instead they used the footage to make the episode called The Menagerie.

I like Star Trek but I am not a trekkie, I am more of the Star Wars person. But, I like the movies and I like the Next Generation Series than anything else.

Well to me, Sci Fi Rocks! I have always been a big fan and loved to watch anything I could when I was growing up. However, I am not sure when I am supposed to stop growing up... lol. Star Wars, Star Trek any version, heck even Buck Rodgers, and do you remember when Lucy and Ethel played aliens on a tower! Funny funny stuff.
