Making Your Traffic Exchange Campaign Work

Do you want me to take a good look at your offer when I see it on my favorite traffic exchange?
Do you want me to respond and get more information? I really do want to see what you have to offer, but I don't want to wait forever for your page to load, and no matter what you've heard, your sound bite isn't going to make me wait longer, either. I'm trying to earn credits for my campaign, and I'm only going to give you some of my precious time if I can see your page quickly, so that I can make an informed decision and move on. There are a few things you can do to make sure I stay and read your information, rather than clicking through to the next site in rotation.

1 Your page has to load fast, or I lose patience, and when the timer runs out, I'm going to click. Limit your graphics to just a logo and a small picture for illustration.

2 Use a splash page for your traffic exchanges. These load much faster, and put less of a load on my connection. I'm less likely to move on the the next site if your information is right in front of me.

3 Take the time to add the content I need to rouse my curiosity, and give me a link or button to click that will open your site in a new page. This will enable me to look over your offer while continuing my surf session.

5 Go ahead and offer me information in my email. Use a simple subscription page attached to an autoresponder, or better still, to your email so that you can give me a personal response.

4 Save the sound effects for your main page. If you are promoting an affiliate page with sound, take the time to build a gateway or splash page, so that I will want to click through to your main page.

5 Take the time to proofread your copy. Nothing will turn me off of your offer faster than several misspelled words or grammatical errors.

6 Avoid using a lot of Flash. I know it's pretty, and I know a lot of us use it, but if I have dial-up your page is not going to load in less than 30 second for me, so I will probably never see it. Save the Flash for your main page that I will see when I sign up for your newsletter or click the link on your splash page

I know these tips seem pretty basic, but you will notice a better response to your traffic exchange campaigns, which will greatly increase your success with your business.

There are so many of us who keep telling folks these basic, but so so important tips, when using traffic exchanges and safelists. Thank you so much for posting them here ... love how you presented them also! LOL

Folks also need to remember that there are still more internet users on dialup than on broadband (here in the US - I don't know about the rest of the work). There's been several threads on this very subject at the Warrior Forum. Many of us live in rural areas where DSL and cable lines have not been laid (or can't be laid). Dialup is one of our only options.

Make quick loading sites, tone it down on the scripts ... they annoy more than impress.

Sheri thank you for the info I think traffic exchanges are over looked by many. How much time do you spend surfing the exchanges?

I'd like to weigh in on Traffic exchanges. Yes I see over weight pages and even banners that run 170 KB, When I'm surfing and have to wait for these things to load I really get upset with them. Not the best way to get me to buy into them.

On the other hand Traffic exchanges are used by people looking to earn income. The very people I'm looking for opportunity seekers. So don't neglect them they are full of active people looking for just what you're selling.

Hi Sheri,

You have made some great points and I would also recommend them for webpages as well. However, when most people start a new business and want a website they want all the bells and whistles that one can afford.

Most people do not take into account that everyone is not on a fast connection.

I have noticed that some of the major sites have a link for the type of connection that a viewer has and that is a plus for the site.

Thanks for this post. I have been a believer in fast loading splash pages for some time now.l

I hate all the graphics I see people put up and if I see a flashing logo, I am apt to click on by the page without waiting to collect my credits.

The KISS principle works well when you are putting up a site on traffic exchanges. The same principle works just as well on credit based safelists also.

Very nice article. I especially agree with the information on sound effects. Nothing turns me off more than those. Leave those for your main site. Please don't put those 20 minute sales pages on the traffic exchanges either. Like Sheri said, give me enough to make an informed decision and I'll leave my address to get more information delivered to my inbox.
