Master Plan Delhi 2021 was started in 2003 by the Union Urban Development Ministry and was to be executed with the help of Delhi Development Authority. The scale of the operation can be decided by the fact that it required 200 experts from different fields were required to come up with the plan of the project. The experts were divided into 12 different groups and it took them 2 years to come up with the plan.

The plan was appreciated globally and was also awarded the prestigious ISOCRAP award in the year 2008. The award stated that this is one project which is being developed on a very high capacity for the purpose of articulating a holistic planning in a very complex metro politician like Delhi. The project is being developed by addressing some of the key problems which ever metropolitan places like trade, commerce, shelter, environment, and industry. The project pays a very good attention to urban designing along with conversation of heritage.
