CAT sTORIES

My wife and I have been involved in cat rescue for almost 10 years, so we have many stories to tell. We adopted the kitty who was the inspiration for the Pet Samaritan Fund of Salt Lake City. She survived being crammed into a cardboard box with several other kittens and tossed over a 40-foot cliff! If you'd like to read more of her story, you can find it on my website: The Pet Rescue Support Site.

Our present project is my cat Ashes. She's a lovely Russian Blue who was given to us "to keep until [her owners] find a place to live that allows pets". Sadly the owner had a stroke before this happened.

When she came to us they said that she wasn't very sociable, and for quite a while, that was true, but we kept trying and eventually allowed her into our bedroom.

She picked my as her person, and began sleeping on the bed down by my feet. Then she started sneaking up to cuddle next to my chest, but she still wouldn't touch me. She'd jump over my leg in order to avoid stepping on me. he he he. Now, she likes to get under the covers with me and cuddle. The only problem is that she's absolutely spoiled! (My fault, I suppose).

We moved last September, and it really upset her. She stopped eating and we had to stoop to heroic measures to keep her alive. We started by force feeding her, forcing her mouth open and shoving food in! Then we tried to get her onto canned food. She would only accept the shredded version of a fish-flavored food, and just licked out the juice. So, we pureed it. That seemed to be the turning point. Now she'sback to her old self, but she wakes my up at about 2:00 every morning to feed her and then again at 4:00. But it's worth it! ;-)

Steve , that is a wonderful story about your cat, Ashes, What a great person you are to care that much for a kitty. I have 8 cats that are all rescues and there are one or two of those that I still can't just pick up. They live outside, so that makes it a litle harder. But they are much happier.
Thanks for that wonderful story.

Thanks, Marge. I appreciate it. And I applaud your rescue efforts. My wife and I also adopted the cat who was the inspiration for The Pet Samaritan Fund (no advertisement intended). If you're interested, visit my site at: http://www.freewebs.com/petrescuesupport to read her story.
