It is now 2008 and ID thieves are starting the year off with a bang. January 5th and already 5 reported breaches affecting 8,700 comfirmed records and thousands more(no concrete number was available in two of the breaches so it was reported as thousands)
If we continue on at this pace for the rest of the year:
1 security breach daily X 366 days will equal 366 reported breaches(there were 300 lest year)
1740 (average confirmed daily victims) X 366 days will equal 636,840 plus the hundreds of thousands more when it can't be confirmed how many records are affected.
All of these breaches originate with businesses. Keep a close Eye on attrition.org (available through the upcoming news button or the main attrition site www.attrition.org to keep on top of these breaches!
