How to Use the World of APSense - APSense Help

Please note that as the "World of APSense" is a Beta version if changes are made this article will be updated as needed.

The "World of APSense" is where you control the advertising that appears on the following areas of your "APSense" account.

Your "Blog", "Bulletin", "Business Center", "Discussions", "Groups", and "Profile"

To access the "World of APSense" area click on the top tab "World of APSense Beta"

You are now on the "Ads Marketplace & Auction" page

You will see listed here the current offers of ad space.
You will see the "Ads Owner" This shows you who is offering the space.

"Item Name" This shows which area they are offering and a description.

"Price", The price will work in conjunction with the last column but shows the current price.

"End Date" The end date will show how much longer the offer is available.

The last column has two options that you may see.

"Bid It" This means that they are offering to the highest bidder just as in an auction. and the number of bids will be
shown.

"Buy It Now" This means that it is a fixed price and you can purchase immediately if you want to advertise in the area offered.

Offers can be displayed in 4 ways by clicking on the tabs marked
"Ending Soonest" This is the default listing and offers are listed in the order of the shortest period to Run up to the longest period to run.

"Recent lists" This option shows the most recent listings.

"Lowest Price" The offers are listed from the lowest price rising up to the highest price.

"Most Bids" This will list the offers with the most number of bids made on them.

The next thing I am sure you want to know is How to put your ad space up for offer.

Click on the link Sell My "Ads By User" Which is on the light blue band just below the main tabs.

On this page you will see 6 Tabs one for each of your areas that ads can be displayed on.
"My Blog Ads", "My Bulletin Ads", "My Business Center Ads", "My Discussions Ads", "My Group Ads", and " My Profile Ads"

Before I continue I need to explain a couple of things.
The ad space is yours to use and you have three options to chose from.

Option 1
Leave everything as it is and display ads provided by "APSense".
These will be a selection of ads from "Ads by APSense" and "Ads By Google".
You are paid at the rate of $0.001 per Unique View.

Option 2
You can place your own personal ads.
I will explain how to place an ad a little further on.

Option 3
You can offer the space to other advertisers.
This means you can either set up an auction sale ("Bid IT") or a Buy It Now"

Placing your ad space on offer

To place your Ad space on offer select the Tab of the area you are going to offer to advertisers.

I will use "My Blog Ads" as an example but each one is exactly the same procedure.

Click on the tab "My Blog Ads" if you are not there.
Click on the "Sell My Ads"button.

"Ads Item Brief"
Fill in a short description of your offer. As an example include for how long the buyer gets the space. how you want to be paid. ie PayPal, AlertPay, etc.

"Bid Type"
Select the radio button next to they type of offer you are making.
either "Buy It Now" or "Auction"

Fill in the price
If you have selected "Buy It Now" Then put in the price you want.
If you have selected "Auction" Then put in the price you want bidding to start from.

Once You have everything filled in click the "Sell Ads" button.

You will now see on the "My Blog Ads" page the ad you have placed displayed for you under the title
"Sell the "Ads by User" ad space here:"
You will also see "Current Bid" and below that a button marked "Remove My Auction"
If you want to take the offer out of the auction of if you have a buyer for the space in the case of a "Buy It Now" offer simply click on the "Remove My Auction"
you will then see that the "Sell the "Ads by User" ad space here:" will now say "This ad is not for sale".

What to do when you have a buyer

It is important to note that all dealings when selling ad Space are between you and the buyer.
"APSense" is only giving you the means to sell your Ad space and does not act as a go between.

When you have a buyer then you need to communicate with each other to arrange payment and for the buyer to supply you with the ad they want placed.

The Ad space can carry either a banner or a text ad of 150 characters.

How to place the ad

This covers both ads you sell and also your own ads if you opt not to sell the space but want to put your own ad on your pages.

We will use the Blog area as an example.

If you are not in the "Sell My Ads By User" area then
To access the "World of APSense" area click on the top tab "World of APSense Beta"
Click on the link Sell My "Ads By User" Which is on the light blue band just below the main tabs.

Click on the appropriate tab if not the blogs ads as "My Blog Ads" is the default.

Click on "Edit My Ads" button

If you are placing a "Text Ad"
Make sure the radio button is checked next to "Text Ads"

"Destination Link" Fill in the URL of the page the advertiser wants people to go to.

"Ads Title" Fill in the title of the ad.
"Ads Text" Fill in the text the advertiser wants displayed (no more than 150 characters including spaces).

Check you have everything correct then click on the "Save Ads" button.

If you are placing a "Banner Ad"
Make sure the radio button is checked next to "Banner Ads"

"Destination Link" Fill in the URL of the page the advertiser wants people to go to.

"Ads Banner" Note you must have a copy of the Banner on your PC to be able to upload it and it must have the extension .jpg or .gif and not be more than 35K. so if you have sold the Ad Space then you need to have the buyer send you a copy of the Banner to be displayed.

To upload a banner.
Click on the "Browse" button and locate the banner on your pc and select it.
The location will then be displayed in the "Ads Banner" box.

Check you have everything correct then click on the "Save Ads" button.

Once you have the ad set up you will see it under the title
"Setup your own Ads into the "Ads by User" ad space here:"

When the period you have sold the ad space for expires you will have to remove the ad.
So if you sell the space for 7 days then at the end of the seven days go back and delete the ad as described below

To remove an ad
Click on the "Edit My Ads" button.
Select the radio button next to "Text Ads"
Make sure all the boxes are empty and then click on the "Save Ads" button.

The ad is removed.

Enjoy your use of "APSense" and remember if you have any questions or anything is not clear ask me and I will be more than happy to assist.

This is an extremely comprehensive explanation Bj, it must have taken ages.

I wonder if it might be good having it in 2 or 3 parts, perhaps even linked at the bottom with a "Next >>>" link.

Hey BJ,
Great info.

If someone wins one of my auctions and i email them with payment instructions etc, How long should I wait for a payment and/or email response?

If there is no response, how would I know who else bid on that auction so I can offer them the ad at their bidded pice?

Mark

You might like to read my other article on what to do now you have joined APSense part 1 and 2.
Part 1 tells you how to set up your Signature file which I notice you are not using at the moment.

Hi Selya & David.

Thank you for the feed back. It is nice to see some take the time to post a feed back.
I have to say 4 out ot 89 views is very disappointing.

Hi Mark,

Ok at the moment this answer is a bit ogf guess work untill I organise a little test with a couple of members.

What I do know is that with a "Buy It Now" you get a notification as follows

Message Subject: One of your Apsense Ads Auction has ended!
Received From: Webmaster - 09/21/07 02:00
Message Body: Hi, bjantiques

This is notification that one of your Apsense Ad Auction has ended.

Here are details your recently ended auction:
Ads Item Title: Blog Ads
Bid Type: Buy it Now
Price Start: $ n/a
Buy Now: $ 5.00

Here are the results of your recently ended auction:
Auction End Time: 2007-09-21 17:34:32
Auction Winner: members id is here, members email is here
Apsense Profile: http://www.apsense.com/user/membersid
Winning Bid: $ 5.00

IMPORANT NOTICE:
Apsense only handles the auction process, the payments and actual ad publishing are the responsiblities between the buyer and seller(that would be You) of the auction. So please email the winner of the auction payment instructions as soon as possible. If the winner does not meet their obligation with the payments, you can contact other bidders to offer them a chance to buy your ad at their bidded price. Good luck!

So based on the last paragraph I assume that you will be notified of each bid if you have an auction offer.

How mong should you wait ? I dont know that will be at your discretion but I would say no more than 24 hours. I think if the bidder is serious then they will get back to you very quickly. you could also stipulate that they have 24 hours to complete transaction or they lose it.

In my case I contacted the winner of the above bid and they have still not responded so as far as I am concerend the space is back up for sale, and I will not accept bids from this person again.

Thanks BJ,

I think 24hrs is a good rule of thumb. So, I figure if there was even only one bid on my auction, then I should submit a fresh auction for that category.

I just wish there was a way that we could identify and keep track of those who engage in what many may call "malicious bidding". That is bidding with no intention of following through.

Thanks again.

Hi Mark

I am considering doing something about malicious bidders but I am still thinking it through.

I have put my space back up for sale and also sent a message to the bidder and asked why they never responded.

If I get no reply within 24 hours and i see they have read the message I will consider publishing their id so all can be warned not to accept bids from them.

Bj
as usual you make it all sound so simple. Thanks for this. I really don't know where Apsense would be without you. so many of us technophobes and computer idiots would just continue floundering.
Can I just ask, is it ok if i put a link to your help files in my newbies group. I don't know if any of them visit your help files or not, but I am sure they would find them as useful as I do. Is this ok to do?

Hi San,

By all means place a link. but its probably best to place a link to the one that lists all the help articles that way members can find all the articles.
