Introduction

Part 2 of the 2% Success Club is mainly about DIRECTION. (You could use "DIRECTION" as a PSW ("PowerSwitchWord") -- see The 2% Success Club - Part 1. Further down this page, "child-mentality" is indicated as an important MBI ("Make-or-Break Issue"). If you currently have the mentality of a child, then you may need to GROW UP. Growing up isMOVEment in the DIRECTION of greater maturity. You may want to review Upgrade Your Brain, and particularly install the "10X Software" so you can become 10 times as effective at utilizing the information on this page. The Ultimate Success Formula (below) includes references to "your success threshold." If you're currently operating below your success threshold in any area of your life, then you may want to become more competent in that area -- MOVE ment in the DIRECTION of greater competence. Near the bottom of this page there's a section called "Find Out Where You Are!" Identifying "where you are now" may help you identify the DIRECTION of your required MOVEment. In trying to MAKE MONEY online, you're competing with others at varying levels of competence. The game of baseball can serve as an analogy. There are major leagues, minor leagues, college baseball, and little leagues (baseball for kids). The higher you MOVE up the leagues, the more you earn as a professional baseball player. If you want to become a professional baseball player, you start with the BASICS. You LEARN to swing your bat and hit the ball. You LEARN to run between bases. You LEARN to throw a ball. You LEARN to catch a ball. You LEARN to slide into a base. If you don't MASTER the BASICS, you can forget about becoming a professional baseball player. What if you're trying to make money online, but you haven't learned the BASIC SKILLS you need to succeed? What if you're like a wannabe baseball player who can't swing a bat, hit a ball, run between bases, throw a ball, or catch a ball?

What if you're really perfectly successful? You're not making any money online because what you really want is to not make any money online. You have a job you hate because you really want a job you hate. You live in relative poverty because that's exactly what you want. After all, if you wanted something different, you would do something different to produce different results. If as a wannabe online moneymaker you're like a wannabe baseball player who hasn't learned to swing a bat, hit a ball, run between bases, throw a ball, and catch a ball... then, maybe, that's really how you want to be. If you haven't LEARNed the BASICS of online MONEYMAKING, maybe that's because you really want to be an underachiever, an underperformer... and even a bumbling incompetent!

Main Causes of Failure

The following is not a complete list. You may want to add your own "favorites" to the list. You could do some research by Googling: "why people fail"; "biggest blocks to success"; "causes of failure"; etc. You may also want to check out the "Basic Get Real Success System" (BGRSS).
  • Self-Deception (includes "excusitis").
  • Gullibility -- "government education" may be designed to turn people into "gullible suckers" (seeDumbed Down by "Education" and Programmed for Mediocrity); much of the content touted on TV to "sell" politicians, drugs, etc. is designed to deceive; similarly "Internet marketing packages that will make you a fortune"; similarly "success books" -- but don't be the "cynic who rejects everything."
  • Incompetence (includes inability to learn, ignorance, and stupidity; find out why you may grossly overestimate your level of competence).
  • Self-sabotage (includes self-doubt, self-limiting beliefs, procrastination, negativity, "don't give a damn," and "war between conscious self and subconscious self" -- try TOGETHER as a PSW).
  • A debilitating "negative-money-mindset" with deep-seated programming like: "The only way to make money is to deprive or cheat others." See "How to Develop a Prosperity Mindset" in the Addendum.
  • Giving up easily (includes laziness, no action, and overwhelm -- try CAN-DO as a PSW).
  • Child-mentality -- see "Big Success Breakthrough" below.
  • Victim-mentality (includes habitually blaming others and factors outside yourself) -- see BGRSS.
  • Fear (includes fear of failure and fear of success). Some people suffer from fear of rejection as one of their biggest blocks to success. This topic is addressed in the Addendum.
  • Anger -- see Addendum.
  • Lack of focus and direction.
  • Being a jerk (includes "hoping that the program will work," instead of "HOPING THAT I WILL WORK").
  • Perfectionism (includes nitpicking) -- see Addendum.
Larry Winget has written an important book People Are Idiots and I Can Prove It! The 10 Ways You Are Sabotaging Yourself and How You Can Overcome Them:
  1. People are ignorant.
  2. People are stupid.
  3. People are lazy.
  4. People don't give a damn.
  5. People lack vision.
  6. People have low expectations.
  7. People don't recognize the consequences of their actions.
  8. People have bad habits.
  9. People have poor role models.
  10. People have no plan.

Choose a Direction and Identify a Purpose for Your Life

Ask yourself: "What do I want from my life?" Write down all the answers you can think of. Spend as many hours (or days) as necessary to answer the question. Ask yourself: "What have I always wanted to do but was afraid to do?" CHOOSE a DIRECTION for your life and COMMIT yourself to it. A good way to identify a purpose for your life is to get 10 sheets of paper. Number them from "#1" to "#10." At the top of each sheet wite: "The Purpose of My Life Is..." Write your answers on each page, starting with #1 and finishing with #10. Select the answer on Page #10 as the most likelyPURPOSE for your life. If necessary and appropriate, you can use FIND as a PSW to CHOOSE aDIRECTION and identify a PURPOSE for your life. You may also want to check out the book Who Are You and What Do You Want? A Journey for the Best of Your Life by Mick Ukleja, Ph.D. and Robert L. Lorber, Ph.D. The "holy gospel" of many "success gurus" includes "setting goals." However, Bobb Biehl has written the book Stop Setting Goals: If You Would Rather Solve Peoblems in which he writes: "[M]y estimate is that from 60 percent to 90% of the world's population prefer problem solving to goal setting..." Introduction to the Big Success Breakthrough

For several years, I've been working on trying to discover, develop, and provide the means to enable people who usually fail to make money online, to become competent enough to succeed.

The Ultimate Success Formula

    1. Humans (unlike other animals) don't automatically achieve their full potential. For us to achieve our full potential requires deliberate, conscious, sustained effort.
    2. Because our brains are highly programmable, they may contain many "negatives" that could affect us adversely and prevent our success.
    3. Many of us may not have learned and/or acquired the necessary knowledge and/or skills to succeed with some of our endeavors -- we lack certain "positives."
    4. An example of a negative is "giving up easily." An example of a positive is the "ability and willingness to learn."
    5. Because of "obstructive negatives" and a lack of"constructive positives" we may operate "below our success threshold" in some of our endeavors.

            1. The line that separates the "red failure zone" from the "green success zone" can be regarded as your "success threshold."
            2. The "Green Key" can be regarded as a metaphor for the actions you take to remove and/or overcome obstructive negatives and add "constructive positives." The "Green Key" enables you to move from the "red failure zone" to the "green success zone"... and to advance "higher up the green success zone."
            3. To apply the "Green Key" there's a "Price to Pay."
            4. To move from failure to success, you need to be willing or become willing to "pay the price."
            5. If currently you're below your your success threshold, then the closer to your success threshold you are, the smaller the price you need to pay to become successful.
            6. The further below your success threshold you are, the bigger the price you have to pay to become successful.
            7. The red failure zone can also be regarded as a "measure of incompetence"; the green success zone as a"measure of competence."
            8. Many psychological studies have demonstrated that most people overestimate their level of competence... and the less competent people are, the more they tend to overestimate their level of competence.
            9. This means that for most people, the price they have to pay to become competent is bigger than they think -- to become successful requires more action and work than they think.
            10. The first part of the price to pay may involve identifying the negatives you need to overcome and/or eliminate. This could include denial and avoidance.
            11. Certain important negatives tend to trump or override positives. If you have a habitual behavior pattern of giving up easily, this negative may trump or override whatever positives you might have, or attempt to add.
            12. To move from failure to success, you may have to overcome and/or eliminate your most important negatives, before you can realistically expect to succeed. (You may be able to utilize the information on this page to help identify your most important negatives to overcome.)
            13. You can Upgrade Your Brain to increase your ability to overcome negatives and add positives.
            14. Removing negatives and adding positives involvesChange. Part of the price you need to pay to become more successful may be to study the process of changing yourself. Google: how to change yourself. The book Your Own Worst Enemy: Breaking the Habit of Adult Underachievement by Kenneth W. Christian, Ph.D. includes a chapter: "All About Change."
            15. Part of the price you need to pay to become more successful may be to Overcome the Resistance to Change. Google: overcome resistance to change. The book The Sedona Method: Your Key to Lasting Happiness, Success, Peace, and Emotional Well-beingby Hale Dwoskin includes a chapter: "Dissolving Your Resistance."
            16. Overcoming and/or removing your most important negatives can open the door to adding the positives that will guarantee your success!
            17. The Quantum Success Leap is a most important aspect of the Ultimate Success Formula. As you persist and continue with removing negatives from your life, and adding positives, there will come a time when you make aQuantum Success Leap to a higher level of competence, achievement, and success. This also applies to programs, businesses, and other groups.
            The "General Success Formula" (GSF) can be regarded as a variation or extension of The Ultimate Success Formula.
            A major challenge has been to identify the best starting point for most people. I now think that you can hardly go wrong if you start working on improving your brain -- see "Upgrade Your Brain." It's possible that once you've started upgrading your brain, you'll make much faster progress with the material on this page. It's possible that there's "all kinds of stuff" in your brain that may make it difficult for you to "put new stuff into your brain" -- like trying to pour more water into a full glass! During my quest to provide people with the means to become more successful, I've developed the concept of "Make-or-Break Issue" (MBI). Think of a car with a broken engine. If you want the car to run, you have to fix the engine first. Washing the car won't make it run. Giving it a new paint job won't make it run. You have to fix the engine first. If you've been struggling to make money online, without the success you seek, then there could be one thing that holds you back more than anything else. This one thing could be the equivalent of a broken engine that prevents you from running. If so, then that's the thing you need to fix before you can succeed. For some people, procrastination may their most important MBI. For some it might bearrogance -- they may overestimate their general level of competence. For some it might bedenial -- they deny to themselves the big problem or issue that's holding them back. For any individual, there may be more than one MBI. For, example your reading skills may not be at a high enough level to read and understand the Big Success Breakthrough (BSB). Before you can proceed, you may have to learn to read at a higher level. The quickest way to do this may be to learn Phonics. Meanwhile, you can do your own online research to find out how to learn Phonics, or you can find a teacher or mentor to assist you. It's vital that you learn to read at a high enough level of proficiency. The most recent MBI I've identified is "child-mentality." I suspect that child-mentality may be a major obstacle for more than 90% of people who struggle to make money online. It's most important to realize that there are many people in grown-up bodies who have a child-mentality in some respects. My own father often complained bitterly about all kinds of trivial things. Sometimes he threw temper tantrums like a 2-year old. Emotionally, my father had a child-mentality of a 5-year old or younger. He never grew up or matured emotionally. It's also important to realize that your own parents may never have matured in some respects. The same may apply to your teachers. You can get married and have a family, without developing an adult-mentality. You can drive a car even if you have a child-mentality. Ever heard of road-rage incidents? In many jobs, you can succeed even if you have a child-mentality. This applies to any job with set procedures and a supervisor who tells employees what to do, and who ensures that they follow the procedures. You can succeed as a check-out cashier at a retail store, even if you have a child-mentality. You can succeed in most factory jobs with your child-mentality. You can succeed as a computer programmer with your child-mentality. If you make a list of all the jobs you can think of, you'll find that most of them can be performed by people with a child-mentality. If you make a list of all the people you personally know -- family, friends, coworkers, etc. -- you'll be able to identify ways in which many of them have the mentality of a child. If you examine the lives of people in "high places," you may discover that some of them have a child-mentality in some respects. To make money online, you need to develop an adult-mentality.

            Inspiration

            I was inspired to recognize child-mentality after reading an email from David Vallieres of "Think and Succeed!" in which he wrote some of the following (edited):
            • We were taught, when we were young, not to be "willful" -- instead we were taught to "give in" and not fight for what we want.
            • When you were a kid you demanded to have a certain toy. You "acted up" if you didn't get it -- like most children. Your parents told you that it was wrong to act up when you don't get what you want. They even withheld the very things you wanted most to "teach you a lesson."
            • That lesson supposedly was:
              1. Don't complain or cry if you don't get what you want;
              2. You can't have everything you want in life.
            • That lesson was proper when we were children because we could not control our emotions or desires and we needed to learn that lesson. But as adults, the lessons we learned as children don't always serve our needs very well.
            • Contrary to pop psychology, your parents are not the cause of the failures you experience as a grown-up. The fault lies with our education system.
            • The formal eduction system we experienced as children never taught us how to "unlearn" the stuff we misunderstood as children. Yes, for the most part we misunderstood the lessons. First, we never learned that some of the "lessons" were only valid for children, but not for adults.
            • We were never taught how to use our minds to help us succeed -- first, by not understanding that the discipline we learned as children was just that -- discipline forCHILDREN.
            • When we had grown up, no one ever told us what the new rules were. The only "rules" after we had grown up, was the "law" and the enforcement of the law by the police.
            • But as an adult you need to be self-willed and make decisions that help you get what you want. You can't rely on the lessons you learned as a child to help you become successful, because THOSE LESSONS WERE FOR CHILDREN!
            • You're probably a grown-up now. Has anyone ever taught you how to get what you want as an adult?
            • Have you ever learned that as an adult you can, within reason, have whatever you want? (Obviously, to think you can own all the buildings in New York City is unreasonable.)
            • I bet no one ever came up to you and said, "Now that you've grown up, you can have anything you want (within reason). So, forget all that stuff you learned as a kid and start getting what you really desire from life."
            • I guarantee no one ever said that to you. But guess what -- I JUST DID! I'm giving you permission to succeed.
            • You don't have to be "special" to succeed in any business you choose.
            • But there is one key ingredient to success that you MUST have before you can become successful.
            • You can have all the knowledge in the world about the business you are starting and still not succeed.
            • You can have money and connections and still not succeed.
            • You can have experience or none and still not succeed if this one thing is missing.
            • Do you know what it is?
            • Some people call it "bull-headed determination."
            • Others call it "stick-to-it-ivness."
            • I call it "willful, conscious persistence."
            • The reason you have not succeeded yet -- and I emphasize "yet" -- is because you haven't learned Willful, Conscious Persistence (WCP).
            • You need to learn how to use your mind to get what you desire and want in life.
            • You need to learn how to make decisions -- fast and easy.
            • It's "OK" to desire things and be successful, particularly if it's good for both you and the world around you.
            • You don't have to be afraid of anything (except for real physical threats, like someone pointing a gun at you). You can be fearless in the face of your circumstances.
            • You can find out what you REALLY WANT from life.

            Recognizing Child-Mentality

            The Non-Existence Formula

            [Acknowledgement: This formula has been adapted and expanded from the "conditions formulas" formulated by L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology -- and creator of some of the most powerful management technology extant. See also The Good and the Bad.] You usually start a new activity, project, or job at the level of non-existence. Generally, you recognize non-existence from the observation that nothing useful is being produced. For example, if you've been trying to launch (bring into existence) some activity for a while, and you haven't made any significant progress, that might indicate that you need to apply the non-existence formula. However, before you become capable of applying the non-existence formula, you may need to apply formulas for "lower levels" such as "helplessness," "confusion," or "self-deception." In my "scheme of things," helplessness, confusion, and self-deception together constitute "unreality." You can find formulas for dealing with these conditions in CREATIVITY REPORT #1. In attempting to apply a comprehensive non-existence formula, the prospect of "so many things to do" might seem overwhelming. So I've formulated both a mini-formula and a maxi-formula for non-existence. It's up to you to identify the steps you need to take to bring into existence what you're trying to achieve.Mini-Formula for Non-Existence: 1. Get inspired and committed!Until one is committed, there is hesitancy. the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness concerning all acts of initiative (and creation). There is one elemental truth, the ignornance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans -- that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves all. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issue from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of incidents and meetings and material assistance which no one could have dreamed would come his or her way. Whatever you can do or dream, you can begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now. -- Quote constructed from the words of William Hutchinson Murray and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe 2. Humility: accept that you don't have all the answers. 3. Become willing to do whatever is necessary to succeed.(Be willing to do things you don't usually do in order to produce what is needed and wanted.) 4. Examine your situation from a perspective of advantages and disadvantages. What advantages do you enjoy that make it likely that you'll succeed? What disadvantages do you suffer from? What do you need to do to increase your advantages and decrease your disadvantages? See THE ULTIMATE SUCCESS SECRET! 5. CREATE A FOUNDATION! To build a house you need a foundation. This may a useful metaphor for discovering what basics you may need "put together" in order to bring your activity, project, or business into existence. The specific elements you might need to "put together" to create your foundation could include:
            • Positive, powerful self-image
            • Proper attitude(s)
            • Required knowledge, formulas, and skills -- discover and learn the basics
            • Capital, equipment, and other resouces
            • Support system -- buddies, partners, mastermind team
            • Physical health
            • Relevant items mentioned in the other non-existence formula steps
            • Etc.
            From studying all the non-existence formula steps, you may be able to answer the questions: "What should my foundation consist of?"; "What absolutely must be part of my foundation?"; "What's been missing from my foundation?"; "What can I usefully add to my foundation?"; "What negatives absolutely must be removed from my foundation?"; "What can I do to make my foundation more advantageous and less disadvantageous?"; "What basics do I need to master in order to succeed?"; "What kind of support system do I need?" "Do I need a buddy or partners, or do I even need to put together a mastermind team, in order to succeed?"; "What might have been in the foundations of others who have successfully brought into existence the kind of thing(s) I'm trying to achieve?"; "Am I willing to invest the necessary time, money, and effort to create the foundation I need for my success?" (If you're not willing to do whatever is necessary to create your foundation to bring a particular thing, activity, project, or business into existence, then it may be time to consider changing direction and doing something different.) 6. Realize that YOUR MIND IS YOUR GREATEST ASSET! At least, it's POTENTIALLY your greatest asset. Many people use their own minds more to sabotage than to aid their success. I emerged from school with a mind PROGRAMMED FOR MEDIOCRITY! The same may apply to you. I highly recommend the book 'Simple Steps to Impossible Dreams: The Fifteen Power Secrets of the World's Most Successful People' by Steven K. Scott. He writes in terms of Six Chains that hold you back andSeven Booster Engines that take you forward. Here are the "15 Power Secrets":
            1. Reprogramming your on-board computer -- Chain #1 (You've been programmed for mediocrity from your youth.)
            2. Overcoming fear of failure -- Chain #2
            3. Turning criticism from foe to friend -- Chain #3
            4. Gaining a clear and precise vision -- Chain #4
            5. Overcoming your lack of know-how -- Chain #5
            6. Overcoming your lack of resources -- Chain #6
            7. Achieving infinitely more in a fraction of the time -- Engine #1
            8. Dreaming and achieving impossible dreams -- Engine #2
            9. Recruiting the partners and mentors of your dreams -- Engine #3 (Remove the limits of your limited resources and multiply your potential -- infinitely!)
            10. Igniting the engine of positiveness -- Engine #4
            11. Effectively and persuasively communicating -- Engine #5 (The single key that unlocks more doors to your dreams than any other.)
            12. Acquiring the discipline of winning most of the time -- Engine #6
            13. Taking control of your life, one minute at a time -- Engine #7
            14. Acquiring the fuel of passion (Passion fuels all seven engines)
            15. Flipping the switch (All the power of your seven booster engines is meaningless if you don't ignite them. A single switch in your heart can instantly ignite each engine!)
            7. Some people are so STUCK IN NEGATIVITY that no matter how many times they read and attempt to apply Scott's principles (or any similar books), they make little or no progress. It may be necessary for you to first MOVE OUT OF YOUR NEGATIVITY! I recommend the book Negaholics: How to Overcome Negativity and Turn Your Life Around by Chrie Carter-Scott, Ph.D. She writes:
            "Negaholism is a syndrome in which people unconsciously limit their own innate abilities, convince themselves that they can't have what they want, and sabotage their wishes, desires, and dreams... Self-imposed limitations... contaminate the consciousness of the majority of the population in subtle ways. The beliefs, attitudes, and perceptions which keep us restricted, constrained, and curtailed have reached epidemic proportions.
            The first few pages of the book include tests to determine if you're a negaholic and what type:
            1. Attitudinal negaholic
            2. Behavioral negaholic
            3. Mental negaholic
            4. Verbal negaholic
            If you're a negaholic, you may have to move out of your chronic negativity before you can effectively implement any of the other non-existence formula steps. The best, most efficient, and most cost-effective way I know of to overcome negative subconscious programming is Idenics. See also "Freedom Step #16 is Confront COMPULSIVE KNEE-JERK NEGATIVITY without reacting in like fashion" in FREEDOM STEPS. 8. Creating a POWERFUL, POSITIVE SELF-IMAGE may be a most important part of creating your FOUNDATION. You may want to check out Dr. Nathaniel Branden's books on self-esteem, or find online resources you can utilize to increase your self-esteem. 9. Identify a communication line (find a means to communicate) to one or more individuals who can assist you. 10. Obtain a map, a recipe, or a set of instructions; design a plan of action. 11. Apply the "Small-Step-Progression Principle" -- see The Millionaire's Secret (I). 12. Discover "What You Can and Can't Control" -- take steps related to what you can control; don't take steps related to what you can't control. See ESCAPE FROM HELPLESSNESS AND MOVE UP TO POWER . 13. Make yourself known. 14. Discover what is needed and wanted. 15. Do, produce, and/or present that. 16. Identify obstacles that prevent your progress or success and develop ways to overcome them. 17. Discover what works and what doesn't. 18. Become Unstoppable. If you are stopped easily, you don't have much chance of getting anything significant off the ground. I recommend the book Unstoppable: 45 Powerful Stories of Perseverance and Triumph for People Just Like You by Cynthia Kersey. To the extent that people are "stoppable" they fail to follow through with whatever they need to do to succeed. Kersey provides 7 characteristics of the unstoppable person:
            1. Purpose ignites the spirit
            2. Passion fuels inexhaustible energy
            3. Belief sustains the journey
            4. Preparation builds the foundation
            5. Teams strengthen the cause
            6. Creativity taps unconscious resources
            7. Perseverance rewards
            [Note: There's an important critique of Unstoppable in the "Killer Success Tricks."] 19. Research Reasons for Success and Failure. "Why have others succeeded or failed at things similar to what I'm trying to achieve?" 20. Find out what factors might cause disastrous failure(particularly after considerable success). Here's my list for the "All-Time Self-Sabotage Hall of Shame":
            • Adolph Hitler (Titanic arrogance?)
            • Al Gore (Beaten by George W. Bush -- Titanic arrogance?)

              21. Ask, "What's missing?" Use the answers to correct and improve what you're doing. By applying the above steps (or a subset of them), you may be able to successfully bring into existence what you want to achieve. However, if you get bogged down, or don't progress as you would like, then you may need to shift the the maxi-formula -- or at least take some of its steps.             When you find yourself complaining about anything, it may be an aspect of child-mentality. Sulking is child-mentality. If you get angry about anything, it may be an aspect of child-mentality. Any excuse you make about anything may be an indication of child-mentality. Whenever you blame others or factors outside yourself, it may be an aspect of child-mentality. Whenever you think or say, "I can't..." or "I'm not a good...", it may reflect your child-mentality."Playing the victim" is child-mentality. "Playing the helpless child" is child-mentality. Giving up easily or lack of persistence is a most important aspect of child-mentality. Whenever you think or say something like, "You make me angry!," it's an aspect of child-mentality. Any degree of irresponsibility is most likely an indication of child-mentality. Q. I'm very disappointed with online business. I've lost a lot; never made a dime. Please be honest; how long will it take me to start making some money? A. This is a most important and revealing question. It may be appropriate to be "very disappointed with online business," because most "online businesses" are unworkable for most people who try to make money with them. However, you say nothing about your own performance. Are you satisfied or dissatisfied with your own performance? Think of a driver intending to go on a journey, driving a car. The driver needs to be able to drive or learn to drive. The car needs to be in good condition. If the driver can't drive, the journey is a non-starter, no matter how good the car. It will take you as long to start making money, as it takes you to become a sufficiently competent "business driver." By observing your own thoughts and behavior and the behavior of others, you can become very aware of child-mentality when it occurs. Can you see that S.C. most likely has an adult-mentality?"Magical thinking" is a most important aspect of child-mentality. An example would be to think that "Santa Claus" (who "lives at the North Pole") will bring you presents. Typically, your parents buy the presents at a toy store... Many popular books such as Think and Grow Rich promote mild or severe forms of magical thinking. Some people read such books, get inspired by them, and then take actions to get rich. If they do get rich, they mistakenly attribute their success to the magical thinking promoted by the book. Most successful people have little or no idea why they really became successful! Some successful people may not even realize which of their specific "get-rich actions"contribute most to their success! The popularity of the book The Secret is an indication of the prevalence and ubiquity of child-mentality! An important aspect of child-mentality is lack of discipline (ease of distraction). An adult ability is to dedicate yourself to an activity and to follow through with discipline. Wannabe online moneymakers who jump from program to program may be hampered by ease of distraction and lack of discipline. You may be able to improve your ability to focus and concentrate and dedicate yourself to something by utilizing the "Concentration, Focus, and Memory" audio on the "Upgrade Your Brain" page. Another important aspect of child-mentality is the expectation of instant gratification. When a child wants candy, it wants it NOW! If you tell a child that it can get candy in 2 weeks, it may "act up" and even throw a tantrum. An adult can take actions in the present that are likely to lead to future gratification. When appropriate, an adult can wait patiently for future results. According to success guru Dan Kennedy: "There's a correlation between being able to delay gratification and ultimate success in business." Studies have been done to suggest that the ability to delay gratification is a most important success factor . Their attitude is, "I'm stuck... so there's nothing I can do." They write me emails talking about all the problems they have, and all the reasons why they CAN'T do anything. But Y.V.'s email says something different. It says, "This is good... I want it." And then it asks aquestion. The very BEST question you can ever ask: "HOW do I get MORE of it?" here's no simpler way to show the difference between the naturally struggling mindset [child-mentality], and the naturally motivated one [adult-mentality]. Because the struggling mind says, "This is really bad, and I can't do anything about it." The motivated mind says, "That looks good; How can I GET ME SOME?" Y.V. asked the question, and then went looking on my site for a WAY to get more. And... this is really important: When he didn't find it, he didn't STOP. And most people, stop. Because, when we're in that "naturally struggling" mindset, we EXPECT to fail. So, as soon as an obstacle comes up that we don't know how to handle, we just stop. And then everything ELSE stops, too. That's what giving up is. NOT what Y.V. is doing!             Yep, that's kind of the problem right there, P.K.! That is, you "don't really believe you can be cured"... which means that whenever you have even a little bit of trouble, you'll be sorely tempted to give up . So, it will probably help a LOT, if you understand this: Natural struggling [child-mentality] isn't something you ARE, it's something that you DO. And if you can DO it, you can also NOT do it. If you think of your brain as being made up of various "mental muscles," that can do things like, analyze, critique, predict, invent, etc., then natural struggling [child-mentality] is essentially using the wrong muscle at the wrong time . For example, if you use your "criticism" muscle to criticize every idea you come up with using the "inventing" muscle, then that's like picking something heavy up, and putting it down again. Over and over again. All day long! Sure, it will strengthen those mental muscles, but it won't actually take you anywhere! It's like running in place on a treadmill, when what you really NEED, is to get to the grocery store. And, it's not that your "criticism" muscle is "bad" and your "inventing" muscle is "good" -- there are important times and places to use BOTH. But, what I've learned since I started writing the book, is that the way our WORST "blocks" actually work, is that they are patterns we learned (usually in childhood) for WHICH musc
