2013 - SEO Trend is Quality Over Quantity
With the new Google algorithms such as Panda, Penguin and recently Zebra updates, every website owner is scrambling to find out what the best strategy is for 2013. I have gathered some industry tips and tricks for 2013 and it simply is going back to the basics - keeping "quality" over "quantity". You still stick to the same SEO metrics:
1. Traffic
2. Links
3. Rank
4. On Page (Title Tags, Header 1 Tags, Alt Attributes & Anchor Text)
5. Social Media
6. Content
1. Traffic - Make sure you can measure your traffic visits, page visits, etc...Monitor where your traffic is coming from and why they're leaving your site so you can best optimize (capitalize) on each visit. This also includes ensuring your page does not take more than 30 seconds to load.
2. Links - Build "Quality" back links. Gage each link to make sure they are bringing you traffic (good/bad). Cut out the bad ones. Only accept links relevant to your niche. For instance if you sell Jewelry...you can associate your links to fashion sites, shoes sites, any women's apparel, gift shops, shopping, etc...but not to food or recipe sites. Constantly gage your links, add new links, replace or renew.
3. Rank - Measure your keyword/keyword phrase volumes. Find Keywords with the most density and focus on those words or phrases for your site. Focus on branded versus non branded keywords. Branded keywords would be like your company name. Non branded keywords are everything else without your company name. Non branded keywords should always be placed near or at the beginning of your browser page titles and include your brand name after the non branded words at the end. Focus on long tail non branded keywords. Read this article to learn more about long tail non branded keywords: http://www.netconcepts.com/long-tail-whitepaper/
4. On page - Put your keywords/keyword phrases into Title Tags, Header 1 Tags, Alt Attributes & Anchor Text. This boosts page rank and search engine recognition of your site. Or you can choose to boost your brand and inject your company name but I suggest the keyword with the most density.
5. Social Media - Add social media buttons and make them prominent on your site. Pick a few of the most popular and put them to your site about 5 and under. If you like to add more that's fine too but most will only pick one social media channel to follow/subscribe to. The 10 most popular (according to BizJournals) are Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest, Yahoo Answers, Google+, Tagged, LinkedIn, MySpace, and MeetMe.
6. Content - Write "Quality" content. Content should be relevant to your site and written in a manner the audience can easily understand but also injected with your niche keywords and keyword phrases. The common practice is to repeat at least 5 times for each keyword or keyword phrase. Include videos and images with alt attributes properly assigned. Incorporate tags and tag hierarchy. Remember to stick to quality and not quantity. Keep up with branding and capitalize on non branded keywords. Keep close watch on your visits and visitors' activities. You will have no problem keeping up with page ranks regardless of any algorithm change. Happy S-E-O!!!
