Beyond List Building
I have read thousands of articles, rev pages, campaigns, questions and more on APSense and it never ceases to amaze me how many people just don't get it. They seem to imagine that there are thousands of people browsing online LOOKING for the next big thing to get rich with. In fact, they must think they are looking so hard, they will snap up ANYTHING that promises to deliver that dream with no regard to who is promising what.
A good percentage of what I see doesn't even begin to provide enough information to convince me to hand over my contact details so they can put me on their list and hound me to death with outright lies and impossible dreams they have never seen results from themselves.
To make matters even worse, they obviously don't think APSense is a credible source of contacts demonstrated by their failure to take advantage of the relationship building tools available to them FREE. I mean how hard is it to upload a decent photo or post a few Experiences or Resources so potential prospects feel more comfortable?
Even then, the majority think plastering the place with banners and links is going to reward them somehow, when the end result is being shunned by the very group they are trying to impress. I admit, I just don't understand???
Contrast that with how simple it is to start a blog or website filled with personal experiences to build a relationship with someone before you smack them in the face with offensive tactics designed to benefit only yourself. Do they really think that's how to get from living in a van with no money, to basking on white sandy beaches while sipping exotic drinks with umbrellas in them?
The cold hard truth is, if you want to build a real list of people who can help you achieve those dreams, then provide them some service or product that will actually further their quest instead of focusing on yourself. Then BE PATIENT and continue to help them until they become friends and ASK for further advice.
A few months ago I purchased a script to run an online referral website for $40 and installed it on a domain name I registered for $10 with monthly expenses of a couple of bucks a month. Since then, I found a few contacts that wanted to build some of the same programs they FOUND on my website, without me shoving anything in their face. Then they promoted my website for me to grow the membership to over 200 like-minded individuals all looking for the same thing.
So the bottom line is, if you want to build a list that has real value, provide a service your target audience can use to benefit themselves and the rest will just happen for you. Just last week I found an advertising resource that looked interesting, so I sent one email to the members of that group and ended up with a dozen referrals that are now building assets for both of us. Now I have a few more followers that look for my suggestions, instead of a list of subscribers marking all my emails as spam and removing themselves.
Think about it!
