Have you seen the latest offering on Facebook?
If you go to set up a new App you will be asked if you want "free" hosting provided by Heroku.
Who the heck is Heroku? If you follow the link you will be led to the developers blog and confronted with an article entitled "Facebook and Heroku: an even easier way to get started"
Supposedly the service is free, but if you read the fine line you will note that eventually you will have to pay. The pricing breaks down like this:
1.7 GB Cache $200
1.7 GB / 5x CPU $400
7.5 GB Cache $800
17 GB Cache $1,600
34 GB Cache $3,200
68 GB Cache $6,400
And, they boast the "Every application on Heroku also includes:
24x7 platform-wide monitoring
Technical support
Secure, hardened, and tuned runtime
Instant deployment and scaling
Fast and fault-tolerant HTTP routing
Complete API/CLI for app management
100% open and standard stacks; no lock-in
Contact us for questions, larger resource needs, or premium support."
What does this mean for us small operators? Will this interfeare with our bread and burtter or is just another hurdel we must climb.
That is why I am focusing my business efforts totally on Local Offline Businesses.
