Computer Maintenance
Computer Maintenance
Any good tradesman always looks after his tools because these tools are what he uses daily to earn a living from and feed his family, pay his bills and keep his business from going under.
Internet marketers or people working from home using their computers and other accessories also need to look after their tools in the same way a plumber, mechanic, electrician or other tradesmen look after their tools.
There are several simple tasks which need to be performed on a regular basis to keep your equipment in good working order. These tasks could be performed without the need for you to employ a technician to do them for you.
Cleaning your history, cache, cookies, temporary folders, download folders, recycle bin, removing unused programs and regular defragmentation would increase your system's speed and save you a lot of money in the long run.
Performing these operations would depend on your operating system and browser. Some operations could be automated to be carried out at certain times. I suggest doing them at the end of your day's work so that they do not interfere with your daily chores. I especially recommend such task as defragmentation be done when you are finished working as this would normally take some time to complete.
There are also software which you could download from the internet which could be used over and over again for a one off fee. Some of these software would clean your hard-drive and defragment your registry as well.
It is important to backup your hard drive before performing some tasks so as not to loose vital information which you have stored there. Backing up to an external or internal hard drive, memory stick, cd or some other remote hard drive is recommended.
You should also create a restore point in your System Restore. This is so that if anything goes wrong you could then set back the system to it's most recently saved point.
Unless you are qualified or have experience of certain parts of your system, it is advisable to call in a qualified technician to perform these tasks for you. It maybe a bit expensive in the short term but will save you a lot of money in the long term.
Tasks such as cleaning your registry and removing certain program files could seriously damage your operating system if not carried our correctly.
