A Newbie’s Dilemma
04 Sep 2011
This morning I awoke as I usually do on a Sunday and thought about the day. I had taken care of my spiritual needs last night at Mass, I was feeling quite comfortable after a discussion on the meaning of a quote by Gandhi with fellow marketers in my Facebook Group (Your main blog/FanPage/biz social network/inspiring video/quote). I read my friend Malok’s Blog and posted on it and then felt the inspiration to write an article myself. No, not on the same subject as that would be offending to my friend. His article was very informative and I could not improve on it.
I chose to write about the
dilemma’s that a newbie such as myself often face when we step into this
monolith giant known as the INTERNET. I chose my “niche” before I ever
got started with this business. I knew that I was going to be a Gift
Shop hostess. So I went about finding the company that could supply my
gift item needs, I found a company that would help me with shipping, I
found a company that would help me with insurance, I found a company
that would help me with many things associated with my niche. I felt
proud of the job that I had done. I WAS SET TO OPEN THE DOORS…….
Wallah, Tanglewood Gifts Emporium is born.
Or so I thought. Yes, I have a beautiful store. (I think so but I have also been told so) I have a huge selection of the finest items available to man. I have a shop that is a Home Decor and Gift Gallery. What I was not aware of is all the work that goes into marketing this project that I have nursed from the ground floor up. It is here, it wants to walk, but so far it is stumbling. WHY??? What can I do to help it start running? Being a resourceful person, I do what I think any good marketer would do. I search the internet. What marketing tools are going to help me the most? Do I Google, Do I PPC (pay per click for the newbies), or the other choice PTC (pay to click). Do I use Facebook advertising? I like that one but unless you have a 10,000.00 dollar a month company they will not let you set up a monthly payment plan. How many know that one? The choices are endless and most of them have a hefty price tag. What to do? What to do?
I bookmark many things and then on the weekends I go through and delete the ones that sound like a lot of hot air. I just today ran across an article that caught my attention. 100 SEO blogs you should subscribe to, now why should I subscribe to them? Well, the article is claiming that they have a high SEO ranking and it would behoove the reader to join the RSS feed. I looked at some of the blogs and did not find anything special that I would like to follow? So does that mean that I am going down the tubes in business? No, I do not trust that statement. I have too much faith in hard work paying off in the end.
I will continue with this
diligent quest of mine to find the path that is going to work for me. I
can tell you that my Alexa has gone from 3million + to
