SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Google is going to start storing medical records to test a service whereby people can retrieve their health records whenever they want them.

Thousands of patients at the Cleveland Clinic have given their OK to have information about their prescriptions, allergies and medical histories placed in the system. The Google profiles will not be available to the general public. And they will be protected by a password.

The health venture is likely to draw the fire of privacy watchdog groups. They already think Google knows too much about the interests and habits of its users, as computers log search requests and store email discussions.

Google sees the system as a logical move for the company. Its search engine already processes millions of requests from people trying to find information about injuries, ailments and recommended treatments.
