Supported Independent Living (SIL) plays a crucial role in helping people with disabilities lead independent, fulfilling lives. With services provided by organizations like Unite Canberra Care and supported by the NDIS, individuals can receive personalized supports and purpose-built accommodation that align with their goals, preferences, and schedules.

Key Discussion Points:

  • Personalized Supports: How do tailored supports in SIL services help individuals with disabilities maintain their independence while receiving the assistance they need?
  • NDIS Funding for SIL and SDA: What has been your experience navigating the NDIS funding streams (SIL & SDA)? How has it made a difference in your or your loved one’s independence?
  • Daily Living Support: What types of daily tasks (e.g., meal preparation, cleaning, personal care) have you found most beneficial in SIL programs? How do these supports help reduce stress and enhance overall well-being?
  • Building Life Skills and Confidence: In what ways have you or someone you know benefited from the life skills development offered by SIL programs? How does it promote confidence and self-reliance?
  • Person-Centered Approach: How important is a person-centered approach in ensuring that each service is customized to individual needs, preferences, and goals?

Join the discussion and share your thoughts or experiences with Supported Independent Living services and the NDIS! Let’s explore how these programs are empowering individuals to live life on their terms.

Great question! For me, NDIS funding was confusing at first, but once sorted, SIL changed everything. My brother gets help with meals and cleaning, which frees him up to work and socialize. The person-centered approach isn't just nice—it's essential. It gave him confidence to live life on his terms.
