If your flatbed trailers are not furnished with bulkheads, header boards, or any other kind of front-end framework that avoids the payload from gliding into the taxi, did you know that you need to use an added band or chain to hold the payload in position? Typically referred to as a "fine strap," this extra tiedown assists protect the cargo to the deck and also prevents it from sliding ahead right into the cab. The federal cargo securement rules in 49 CFR ยง 393.110 require this extra tiedown if you're not using a front-end framework to protect the payload.
