Battery Ventures, Bay Partners and U.S. Venture Partners hit agrand slam with todays IPO of Guidewire Software Inc., which makes software for insurance companies. As a group, the three venture firms hold about 25 million shares valued at about $428 million at todays closing price of $17.12. The firms invested a modest $19.5 million in the startup over four rounds (according to Thomson Reuters, publisher of peHUB), which means they saw a paper return of close to 22x on their investment.
