Review on The Brain that Changes Itself

In 1998, a Swedish-American team, led by Peter Eriksson of Sahlgrenska University Hospital, published a study that showed, for the very first time, that neurogenesis - the creation of new brain cells - was possible in adults. In 2006, a team led by Eleanor Maguire at the Institute of Neurology at University College London, found that the city's taxi drivers have more grey matter in one hippocampal area than bus drivers, due to their incredible spatial knowledge of Londons maze of streets. In 2007, Norman Doidge published the book entitled :" The Brain that Changes Itself". This book is the most important breakthrough in neuroscience since scientists first sketched out the brains basic anatomy. Norman Doidges made a revolutionary discovery called neuroplasticity which has overthrown the centuries-old notion that the brain is fixed and unchanging. No, the brain is not, as was thought, like a machine, or hardwired like a computer.
In its review of the book, the New York Times proclaimed that the power of positive thinking has finally gained scientific credibility.
Since its dicovery, Neuroplasticity has become a constant feature of the human behaviour.

Neurogenesis and neuroplasticity are very interesting topics. They don't relate to the kind of positive thinking, emotional wishfulness is based on.

Transformational psychology is more in line with applied research we all can conduct in our waking hours of the day during moments of mindfulness and by examining our dreams more closely for emotional content just like the connectivity of various memories in mapping out our mind space at other times.

We have yet to learn how to work on our mental capacity to develop better intellectual tools and apply ideas to a more focused individual mental expansion process in support of a broader socio-cultural awareness of global mental health issues which are seriously limiting our psychological well being at the present time ...

@Franto, I don't agree with you in the first paragraph where you write : They (Neurogenesis and neuroplasticity) don't relate to the kind of positive thinking, emotional wishfulness is based on.

Have you read this article, http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20151123-the-brains-miracle-superpowers-of-self-improvement?

You will find there some ideas that support the fact that the power of positive thinking has gained scientific credibility thriough the discovery of neuroplasticity.
