The treatment of liver cirrhosis depends on what is causing cirrhosis and the extent of the damage. Although there is no cure for cirrhosis, treatment can delay or stop its progression and reduce complications.

Depending on the cause of cirrhosis, the treatment can be done as follows:

Alcohol-related liver disease If a person has developed cirrhosis after consuming alcohol, then drinking alcohol should be stopped. If they need help, they can ask their doctor.
Hepatitis B or C - There are several approved antiviral drugs available to treat hepatitis types B and C.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease - Management of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease includes losing weight, getting the person to follow a healthy diet, getting physical exercise, and following the doctor's instructions for managing diabetes.
