Review on Dialysis and Kidney Transplant

What is Dialysis?
In case of complex kidney problems or kidney failure, doctors recommend dialysis. There are many important organs in our body, one of them is the kidney. It filters the water and toxins accumulated in the body and removes the dirt through urine. In addition, it removes excess water content.

Kidneys also help in absorption of minerals in the body. If the kidney is not able to perform its function properly, then waste material starts accumulating from the body which is harmful for the body. In such a situation, dialysis has to be done to remove excess water.

How is Dialysis done ?
During hemodialysis, the dialysis machine draws blood from a needle into the patient's arm. The blood is cleaned through a dialyzer filter. This machine moves the waste into the dialysis solution. This cleaning liquid contains water, salt, and other additives. The filtered blood is then returned to your body through a separate needle in the patient's arm. The blood pressure is monitored to adjust how fast blood flows in and out of the patient's body.

What is a kidney transplant?
A kidney transplant is a surgical procedure that involves surgery to replace a diseased kidney with a healthy kidney from a donor.

The kidney can come from a deceased organ donor or a living donor. Family members or others who are a good match may be able to donate one of their kidneys. This type of transplant is called a living transplant.

Kidney transplant donors can lead a healthy life with a healthy kidney. However, the transplanted person often gets only 1 kidney. In rare circumstances, they may receive 2 kidneys from a deceased donor. Diseased kidneys are usually left in their place.

There are many hospitals and best nephrologists in India where Kidney Transplant is done with great success like in Mumbai.
