Are we there yet ? Not quite.

For the love of those not so well off as us.

For the last few years, Lynda my wife, Joshua my nine year old son and my self have been involved with a great work being carried out in South India.

We and many others have helped to raise money where we could to help the railway children, so called because they are orphans who live on a railway station. They beg from the train passengers and eat food thrown away by them just to survive. They sleep there also.

Earlier this year the church we attend Life in the Nations obtained land to build an orphanage. The church paid for holes to be bored and we were blessed to find that the ground was over the fresh water table. Since then there has been many sponsored walks, sponsored swimming, sponsored bicycle ride, bucket shakes, etc to raise money towards the building of the orphanage. Even the toddlers in our Mother and Toddler group did a sponsored sing.

The estimate given for the building of the orphanage was reduced by the members of the Life in the Nations church, India situated closest to the orphanage site doing all the labouring work themselves so we only had to pay for the tradesmen. The figure we had to find for the building of the orphanage was £6,800.00. The building would be large enough for forty children.

I am pleased to say that the money for the completion of the building is in and the building of the orphanage is close to completion. Of course once the building is finished then we will have to start raising money for the equipment, beds, bedding, showers, etc.

a) Boundary wall to keep out wild dogs and animals
and give the children a safe place to play £800.00
b) Beds - 30 at a cost of £750.
c) More blankets ,total 30 at £5.00 each £150.00
d) New clothes for children return to school £130.00

As for the orphans, we have taken in twelve, eleven of whom we have found sponsors for. We have people paying £10.00 a month to provide for these orphans. They are living in a small church until their new home is completed. When it is we will have room for another twenty eight children. We have also found three widows to help look after them. We are going to need a lot more money coming in to run this orphanage and need all the help we can get from who ever will become part of the initiative with us.
