The Akshaya Patra Foundation, through its campaign Unlock Smiles allows you to do just that. Each smiley signifies a smile on one child’s face. Ensuring Contributions Benefit Children

Akshaya Patra's new campaign Unlock Smiles is a serious endeavour to ensure that the number of children benefiting from the school lunch programme increase. These children will get a wholesome meal on every school day.

With the increasing number of children, there is a need for more resources that will help widen the reach of Akshaya Patra's mid-day meal programme.

The programme that has expanded over the last 17 years, currently reaches over 1.6 million children a day. The food served by the Foundation complies with the guidelines provided by the Government’s Mid-Day Meal Scheme.

The food is being appreciated by the students. The outcome of this is visible in the increasing number of attendees in the school every day. The children don’t have to bother about earning their meal as they get to eat unlimited food at their schools.

The Nutritional Requirements

The nutritional requirements of a child vary depending on the age and the gender. The Government has thoughtfully come up with guidelines for the same. The amount of calories and protein prescribed for a primary student in every meal is 450 cal and 12 grams respectively. Whereas, the student in upper primary classes get 700 calories and 12 grams of protein in every meal. Adequate micronutrients like iron, folic acid, vitamin A, etc., are also prescribed. This ensures that the food prepares is a complete meal and helps the child in his/her mental and physical development. If a child doesn’t have to bother about his meal, he/she can focus on studying well and working towards having a career of his/her choice.
