There is a common believe that working from home is for women and when one works from home its something trivial one is doing. I think the concept of working from home is mainly for women stems from the fact, women are seen as the main caregivers and homemakers. In today's day and age this is idea should be shunned like the plague.

However coming to working from home, it's here to stay. I do agree there are many jobs which can't be done remotely however there are many that can be and many more coming up.

Working from home is a success when both employer and employee understand the rules of the game. An employeeneeds to have self -discipline, an insulated workplace and complete focus and dedication during the allotted work hours. Employer should demand a strict reporting system, give achievable milestones and monitor, communicate and support.

Many Indian women entrepreneursare working from home and doing a great job of it. So are their male counterparts. This goes for entrepreneurs worldwide.

Peopleare  running successful digital magazines like hr magazine, HR management  magazines,  or any other digital magazine  and doing almost the entire work sitting at home.

There are some brilliant gourmet blogs, run by experts in the field. They are a highly profitable business and majority of online gourmet magazine are run from home.

Social media, web conferencing facilities,  the possibility of sharing and working simultaneously on documents, and brilliant  issue management systems have given a huge boost to the concept of working from home. There are enough HR magazines and HR management magazines advocating and talking about this concept. HR policies are being shaped to accommodate and allow working from home.

For me working from home has benefitted Indian women entrepreneurs and women entrepreneurs elsewhere the most. They are able to fulfil their dreams and also continue playing the role of a homemaker and caregiver.

In addition to businesses more and more jobs are coming up for home and remote work. It's a win win for both employer and employee. In some ways I feel employee at time even puts in more hours than the allotted ones. Employers are able to tap into the potential of the workforce which otherwise would have been wasted. Multilingual customer service and chat facilities are nowadays provided by most companies to their clients as they can use the services of men and women who for some reason are not able to take up an office job.  Web developers, graphic designers and various other jobs catering to the online world is sourced from home.

It's wonderful working from home, but there needs to be a proper  balance and  discipline maintained  to be successful.
