Wood Stains for Any Project

by Kevin Smith Author

Whether you’re building a new wooden fence to enhance your property value, or building an entire log cabin because it’s your dream retirement home, the fact of the matter is that you need to protect the wood that you use in these projects, otherwise they will not be as durable, or last as long as they should for the time and money spent on them. Wood fence stain is a product that can not only enhance the color of your wood to bring out the natural beauty, but it also protects your wood from damage or degradation.

There are many different options when it comes to wood fence stains, and different options provide different levels of protection for each of your wood surfaces. There are also different levels of translucence, some providing more color, or stain, than others. Here are some of the options when it comes to wood stain.

Translucent Wood Finish

Translucent wood finishes are typically water based products. The good news about a water based product is that it gives you the ability to clean the surface simply using only soap and water. It also provides excellent UV protection from the damaging rays of the sun that could fade and warp your wood over time. This water-based product is great for decks and fences and provides a completely translucent finish, meaning the true color of the wood really shines through.

Acrylic Wood Finish

What’s great about acrylic wood finish is that it gives you a stronger, more durable finish as it uses the technology of acrylic resin to coat your wood surfaces. This durability makes it a great finish for the products that go through a bit more wear and tear, and need to best withstand the elements, like wood siding and home entry doors.

Another great thing about acrylic finish is that it is water repellent. Because of that, things like your siding will not take on water and it helps your home maintain temperature and be free from mold or other issues caused by water. Acrylic finish provides the same UV protection as other stains, too

Oil Based Finish

An oil based finish, perfect for decks, is made with the combination of oil and water molecules. That gives it strength to stand up to many years of feet and furniture crossing the deck, while also giving it the ease of soap and water clean up. Whatever wood fence stain you choose, remember that it has to be right for the project at hand.
