An issue that large universities struggle with is campus protection. There are so many students that commute to campus for class, and students also make campus their home by living in the dorm rooms. Not only does the campus need to protect students, staff, and faculty, they have to protect the students' dorms which have become their homes. There are so many areas of campus that need to be protected such as parking lots, dorm halls, lecture halls, and dining halls. Campus security does a great job to protect areas, but not every space can be viewed at all times. Campuses are now turning to wireless security cameras for added protection. The security cameras not only monitor the campus, but the cameras are on every minute of the day and night, and record images.

In recent headlines in San Antonio, Texas, the University of Texas San Antonio has opted to use wireless security cameras on their campus. The University is increasing the number of students accepted and areas of the campus are being expanded. They had to build a new parking lot to accommodate the students, staff and faculty. The parking lot can park up to 600 vehicles. Campus officials were concerned with the safety of the parking lot because it is in a remote location on campus, and so many vehicles would be parked there as it is the largest lot on campus. The campus police use the recorded footage to capture license plate information they may not have not have recorded if something happened. They also use the wireless security cameras to monitor unusual behavior. It also records every car that leaves and enters the parking lot. The security cameras have proven to be effective. They have solved cases involving theft and attempted break-ins. The cameras are a deterrent to crime and help keep the campus safe.

Using wireless security cameras for campus protection is cost effective and reliable. The cameras deter crime, produce clear images, can be moved easily to view different areas on campus, and help campus police watch over the campus. Campus officials will be able to meet budget criteria for safety because the only fee associated with using a wireless camera is buying the cameras. The cameras don't require a monthly fee for usage like most security alarm services. Students will start to feel safer on campu
