Why Zamzam is considered as the holy water?

The well of Zamzam water is located inside Haramain the holy city of Makkah, Saudia Arabia. It is present inside Masjid-al-Haram; just a few meters on the eastern side of Holy Kaabah. The history of Zamzam water dates back to thousands of years i.e., when Allah Almighty testing Hazrat Ibrahim (AS), ordered him to leave his wife Hazrat Hajrah and infant baby Hazrat Ismail (AS) in the isolated desert of Makkah city. Showing utmost obedience to Allah’s command, Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) took his (AS) wife and son to Makkah and left them in the middle of the desert on their own.

A time came when infant Ismail (AS) felt hungry and he (AS) started crying; there was no soul to be seen till the farthest distance who would help the mother in despair. She (Hazrat Hajrah) ran for help between the hills of Safah and Marwah in order to find a Karavan to help but couldn’t. Little Ismail (AS) began scraping the ground with his feet and from there miraculously sprang the water of Zamzam, by the will of Allah Almighty. As she saw that the water kept on flowing and the water level was rising, she said, “Zam Zam” which means ‘stop’.

Not only Zamzam water has exceptional significance in Islam but also it is the finest water to exist on earth, even more than French Alps. It also has healing capabilities because Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) said in a hadith; (description) The Zamzam water is for whatever reason it is drunk for.

Drinking of Zamzam water by pilgrims is also one of the essential rituals of the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages.

Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) not only used to drink Zamzam water but also, he (SAWW) used to perform ablution with it as well as carry it with himself so that it could be given to ill people. He (SAWW) narrated in a hadith; (description) The best water present on the face of the earth is the water of Zamzam; it is a kind of food and also healing from sickness.

The supply of Zamzam water is made available for pilgrims throughout Masjid-al-Haram using different water fountains and dispensing containers. However, the well of Zamzam itself remains situated in the basement area and pilgrims aren’t allowed to go there.
