Why Your Project May Need a Roll-Off Dumpster?

by Kevin Smith Author

When most folks hear “dumpster,” they think a large receptacle a business could use or one of those massive dumpsters you see at construction sites. They do not necessarily think of a roll-off dumpster for smaller projects. In fact, if you have any project that requires more than a few trash cans in Greenville, dumpster services are not only appropriate, they probably will help save you money and time. Here are the details.

Projects for Roll-Offs

Certainly, larger projects such as construction sites or businesses with a lot of trash would need a dumpster, sized to accommodate its trash volume, but many other projects would benefit as well. For example, cleaning out a garage or attic if you have a lot of disposable junk would be perfect for a dumpster. So would a large scale yard cleanup and of course, if you are remodeling any part of your house, a dumpster is preferable to filling your trash cans to the brim.

Sizes

Roll-off Dumpsters come in all shapes and sizes. The goal is to rent one that can easily accommodate your volume of trash, but not be so big you end up paying for a lot of empty space. Guessing about the size needed is inevitable, but you can also consult staff at a dumpster service to get an idea of what sized dumpster handles what sized project.

Dumpster Sizes

Depending on the service you look at, dumpster sizes are fairly standard. Generally, the smallest sized is about 8 yards and the largest are over 60. The size is gauged by volume, so a 10-yard dumpster can hold 10 cubic yards of waste. A 20-yard dumpster can hold double that amount of waste. This does mean you will have to estimate how much waste your project will produce, but understanding how dumpsters are sized can give you a guide to determining what you do not need.

For example, if you are remodeling your kitchen and your contractor says you will produce somewhere around 15 cubic yards of waste, you know a 10-yard dumpster will likely be too small, but a 30-yard dumpster will be way more than you need. The obvious choice will be a 20-yard dumpster and to offset the open space, you could find another project that would use up the difference (maybe finally cleaning out that garage.)

If you are doing a fairly large project in Greenville, dumpster services may be exactly what you need to avoid having to make multiple trips to a transfer station or pay through the nose to get rid of your waste. Work with your local dumpster professional to determine what size you need.
