A lift is an essential part of our life, which we use on daily basis, and many times in a day. It helps us move from one floor in a building to another to the one we want without letting us feel tired while eliminating the need of walking for us. So, while it has a vital importance in our life, and especially in life of people, who live in high rise apartments and work in high rise offices, hospitals, and so on, it is responsibility of every one to ensure life work properly. Yes, it is true that the administration staffs is always responsible for lift servicing and contacting lift engineers in time of need, but as a user, you are also responsible for the well-being of the parts you use on everyday basis.

While we feel that everyone is responsible to ensure a lift works properly, it does not mean you will become a lift engineer at time of need even if you do not have enough technical knowledge. Your part of responsibility is limited to,

1.      Keep a watch on the functioning of the lift while you use it

2.      Help others, who are not aware of the functioning of a lift, easily use the lift

3.      Stop those who are doing unwanted activities in the lift; for example, you can stop kids to play with switches, stop them from jumping inside the lift, and so on

4.      Informing the responsible staff / person if you see any fault in the lift

If you take the responsibility of the above listed tasks then the life of a lift will increase by default while you will get a better experience. You should never try to service a lift if you notice any problem, as it may lead into an accident causing hazards to your life, surrounding people and building parts as well.

What to do when lift shows signs of problem

Every problem has a solution so the lift has a solution as well. However, that solution is known to lift engineers only so call the Lift Company with whom your contract for life servicing has been signed. The team from the company will come, inspect the problem, and fix it. And, in case, you have not still signed a contract for regular lift servicing, then do it now because if lifts in your building are serviced on a regular interval then there will be no need to call a lift company except in time of emergency.
