Every time you turn your head around in a public place, there is a high possibility that you might find a person drinking bottled water. The number of people consuming bottled drinking water has increased in the last decade. But is packaged water really the answer to safe drinking water or are home water purifiers better?

First of all, let’s look at the role water plays in our everyday lives. Studies show that 70% of the body is made up of water. It is a part of every organ in our body including eyes, heart, liver, skin and hair.

It is obvious that we need to take in a certain amount of water each day to sustain life. The question is how much?

Most studies conclude that drinking around eight litres of water per day will take care of most people’s needs. You may need more water if you exercise a lot or have other health problems. Drinking water is a natural way of flushing toxins from our body, aiding the body in the normal processes of detoxification.

Removing toxins from the body will ensure that you remain free from diseases. Water also helps us boost our metabolism and aids digestion.  This brings us to our next point, an important one.

How important is the quality of water?

Millions of people consume billions of litres of bottled water, never questioning where that water came from. If it tastes good, it would be OK, may be better than what is coming from the home tap, you may feel. Think again!

A report by a leading daily pointed out that pesticides were found in bottled drinking water. The lack of minerals in bottled water raised a few eyebrows too.

The savvy consumers have picked up on these reports and have taken matters into their own hands, by using electric water purifiers. They feel better knowing where their water is coming from. Also, they feel safe, having gotten rid of all those contaminants that previously lurked in their drinking water –chlorine, lead, pesticides, chemicals, etc.

Let’s analyse and compare home water purifiers.

Reverse Osmosis: This water purification technology is popular and widely known too. Its membrane contains small pores that filter almost everything,  including minerals. Our body need minerals. In fact, we purchase supplements worth millions. To give our body the vitamins and minerals that it needs. Reverse Osmosis removes all the essential minerals too, from our drinking water.

UV (Ultraviolet water purification): UV rays penetrate inside the microorganism cells. They are absorbed by the DNA of the pathogens, present in the water being treated. This results in the DNA being altered in such a way that the pathogen can no longer reproduce, stopping infection. This process of DNA modification is called inactivation.

The process is, however, ineffective against chemicals, cysts, pesticides, etc. UV water purification technology is often used with other water purification technologies to provide clean drinking water.

There are water purifiers in the market that get rid of contaminants and leave the good things for our body to absorb. There are water purifiers that make the water taste better while retaining the essential minerals. These water purifiers use a combination of UV+UF+RO+TDS control, to provide clean water.  They are capable of removing impurities such as dust, sand, bacteria, viruses, cysts, pesticides, salts of arsenic, fluoride, etc.

Kent, a brand that is known as ‘The House of Purity’, has come up with one such water purifier known as Kent’s Mineral RO.

Purchasing a water purifier online gives you a chance to compare the different water purification technologies available out there, letting you choose the one that suits your needs the most.
