Why You Should Consider Internal Audit Training Courses

by Richard Bradford Freelance Writer
Since its inception in 1987, ISO 9000 has remained ISO’s most popular series of standards. Concentrating on quality management systems, ISO 9001 is regularly revised and it's important to stay on top of the changes.

All ISO standards are reviewed every five years to see if a revision is required to keep its content current and relevant for the marketplace.

ISO 9000 was designed to offer guidelines to increase business efficiency and customer satisfaction. The goal of ISO 9000 is to develop a quality management system within an organisation, which will increase productivity, reduce unnecessary costs and ensure the quality of processes and products.

It's a win-win situation

So whichever way you look at it, establishing an integrated management system ISO 9001 within a business is a win-win situation for everyone.

However, with this system in place, it is also necessary for staff to attend internal audit training courses, to ensure the system is working correctly.

The right training will give staff the skills they need to assess the implementation and smooth running of the processes involved, helping to continually improve the integrated management system ISO 9001.

Businesses small, medium and large are seeing the benefits of combining their environmental, OHS and safety management systems into one integrated system. Not only does it make the business more efficient and productive, but it also reduces documentation - as there are several common clauses, reduces repetition of processes, is easier to manage and, importantly, reduces the cost of certification.

Tailor-made course

But the key to success is finding a training provider that not only employs trained AND experienced consultants, but one that also understands the need to tailor the training to each individual business.

Look for a training centre that has experience across a wide range of industries, including manufacturing and service industries, engineering and construction, hospitals and aged care, food safety, air-conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, plumbing and drainage contractors and so on.

Internal audit training courses provide an overall understanding of what is required and covers the various clauses of ISO 9001. It prepares participants so that they can conduct internal audits of management systems.

Auditing methodologies are taught, and then tested during mock audit role play exercises.

Internal audit training courses will also cover topics such as communication skills, non-conformance reporting and corrective/preventative action.

An important role

A QMS ISO 9001 lead auditor course is, as you would expect, longer and much more detailed, as this is a very important role.

The course involves many different modules and aims to provide auditors with the necessary knowledge and skills to properly conduct third party assessments of integrated management systems.

The certification process is considered in detail, and participants will study the legal and ethical aspects of auditing, their role and responsibilities, communication skills, quality management principles, and much more.

International Standards were once something that just a handful of businesses investigated. Over time that number has rapidly grown as businesses see the many benefits of being ISO certified.

Benefits of ISO

Certification brings economic, social and technological benefits, helping to make businesses run more efficiently and, increasingly important in our market, breaking down barriers to international trade.

Conformity to these standards tells customers that a company's products are safe, efficient, ethical and won't harm the environment.

ISO standards are not mandatory. However, they are becoming increasingly recommended and some, such as ISO 9000 quality management systems, are becoming market requirements.
