Why You Should Choose Ace Cloud Hosting as Your DaaS Provider

Key Differences in VDI vs DaaS

There’s been a drastic change in the adoption patterns of virtualization technology across multiple industries, like finance, healthcare, IT, etc. The reason behind this shift is the rapid evolution of digital transformation trends. We now have the power to virtualize almost any office infrastructure.

For example, according to 2020 report, virtualization is not just about servers anymore. Businesses are adopting storage virtualization (40%), desktop virtualization (32%), application virtualization (39%), and data virtualization (30%).

VDI and DaaS Pricing are key contributors to this ongoing trend. Virtual Desktop Infrastructure is a desktop virtualization technology that creates thin clients (virtual machines) in an on-premise data center and server. Desktop as a Service is also a desktop virtualization technology, essentially a part of VDI, that creates thin clients on cloud servers.

What is the difference between VDI and DaaS? How can we choose between DaaS and VDI

What Are the Key Differences between DaaS and VDI Solutions?

While the functioning of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and Desktop as a Service is the same, there are some key differences between hardware and operational structures. Evaluate these differences below.

Tenancy

VDI deployments are on-premise, which means a single-tenant server, where only your organization and its employees are using resources. Businesses completely configure, maintain, upgrade, and deploy thin clients on this model without external help.

DaaS is usually a multi-tenant server where more than one business is using cloud resources. DaaS is a managed service that is offered by the provider to different businesses. However, the virtual server of your business is isolated from other organizations, which helps you use a shared server securely.

Data Center and Server

VDI as a Services are managed in-house. The entire server and data center is created, managed, deployed, upgraded, and secured by the business. This includes selecting hardware components, configuring encryption, ensuring security, etc.

In this case, DaaS seems an easy choice, as the data center and server are managed and secured by the cloud provider. You need to take care of your endpoints and role-based access hierarchy.

Affordability

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure involves high capital expenses, involving server maintenance, upgrade, and security. The IT team is hired, upskilled, and managed by your company. Further, endpoints are also deployed and managed internally. You need a huge budget to deploy VDI on-premise.

Contrary to this, deploying DaaS is much easier. It is a service that can be used on a monthly subscription. Services offered by the provider are included in your SLAs and pricing model. However, since the cost is divided between various businesses, the final cost for each is lower.

Scalability and GPU as a Services

Scalability is an optimum route in both deployments. In VDI, scalability means increasing hardware and software to offer high-performance and seamless access. On DaaS, scalability is renting resources from an already huge network of servers.

We can scale/descale these requirements (on-demand) according to business requirements.

Cloud offers simple scalability options that help you ensure resource and cost optimization.

Data Access

VDI solutions experience some downtime because of hardware wear and tear, software failure, hardware failure, power outage, or any other issues. These downtimes restrict data access and limit productivity.

DaaS offers 99.99% uptime because the cloud has a network of servers. There are multiple redundant servers with data stored on every server, which helps maintain data accessibility and availability.
