Why You Should Choose a Catholic School for Your Child?

by Ella Wilson Love to write
There was a time when people assumed that to attend the best Catholic high school in Queens, you had to be Catholic. That time has passed, though; millions of Americans now send their children to Catholic schools, despite a different or no religious background at home.

Why? There are many benefits to attending a Catholic school – many of which are not very well known outside the private and religious school communities. Here’s what you need to know about harnessing those benefits for your student:

Better Education

There’s definitely truth to the idea that Catholic and other private schools offer a superior education to public schools. This has nothing to do with religion or the cost of attending these schools; rather, students benefit from a better standard of learning offered by teachers who are not beholden to the same state guidelines that public-school educators are.

Consider this: children in public schools are no longer taught to tie their shoes, read an analog clock, or improve their penmanship through practice. These are all valuable life skills that have been written out of the public-school curriculum in favor of other elements.

When your child attends a private, religious school, they have the opportunity to learn all the same facts and figures that their public-school peers do but are also offered the opportunity to gain life experience and skills that these other children are not. The education offered through Catholic schooling is better because it is more well-rounded – more complete. It’s what any parents would want for their child.

Morally Sound Environment

While you may not be Catholic or have any reason to want your child to study scripture, there is no denying that a religious school offers a different atmosphere than a public school does.

Your child will be better monitored in their interactions with peers when attending a Catholic school but will also be guided morally through the process of learning decision-making skills. This means that the morals we desire to teach our children at home – respect, integrity, truthfulness, honor – are reinforced in the classroom. Seeing their peers follow these rules will only help to reinforce them for your child, as well.

More Affordable Than You Might Think

But aren’t all Catholic schools prestigious, private institutions? Aren’t they all outrageously expensive?

These are protests that many families hear when first announcing their switch to Catholic education. However, this is a misconception that is increasingly untrue. Today’s Catholic schools are more affordable than ever, offering discounts, tuition waivers, assistance programs, and scholarships for students of all ages. Children from all economic backgrounds can enjoy the quality education of Catholic schooling – all their parents need to do is reach out to learn more about these programs in their own communities.

So, what are you waiting for? Your children could continue attending their current school, or you could be sending them to the best Catholic high school in Queens – no change of religious affiliation required! Contact your local Catholic academy to learn more. You never know – a better education could be just a phone call away!
