A crane rail is required for the crane to function and work properly along with operating and completing the task of lifting something up. There are certain necessary requirements that must be met before choosing a certain crane rail and completing the process of its installation. The correct choice of crane rails would help the crane in performing its functions more effectively and efficiently.

One can find several companies that deal with the buying and selling of crane rails. Customers are always advised to buy their crane rails from a competitive supplier. The crane rail installation procedure can be completed either by the users themselves or by the manufacturer of the cranes. The gantry cranes are a type of crane that is usually divided into track type and tire type. The overhead cranes, on the other hand, require to be equipped with running tracks.

In case there is no previously installed track on the crane the users are advised or recommended to contact the esteemed professionals who have manufactured the crane.

The crane rail and its accessories

A crane rail is usually made with the help of steel. The length of these rails are limited and hence it is necessary to attach or connect them as it makes it easier and more convenient in operating the whole machine or the trolley. There are various types of accessories that are used in the connecting part of the guide rail like the bolts, nuts, spring washers, rail clips and others. It is very important to weld and fastens the bolts of the track joints.

If the welding and bolting processes of the crane tracks are ignored then it can lead to severe hidden safety hazards during the use of the crane.

The Installation process of Crane rails

During the operation of the individual crane trolleys, a longitudinal or lateral force is produced. When the body structure and the small trolley are being operated at the same time there is the generation of a synthetic braking force. If the rail of the crane gets installed, usually one side of the rail is situated higher than the other side. In such a situation, they would start moving to the lower side which would lead to an increase in the lateral force.

Hence, effective measures must be undertaken for fixing the crane rails that highlight such an installation. The permanent welding method or procedure is not recommended if the client wants easy replacement of rails. According to some companies that deal with crane rail installation in Saudi Arabia, the installation process of crane rails is mainly divided into two categories or parts. The first part is on a steel beam and the second one is on the precast concrete beam. The concrete beam that is prefabricated must contain embedded holes for completing the installation process of bolts or pre-embedded bolts.

Fixing the crane rail clip

This is probably the easiest method of using clips for fixing the crane rails. In order to adjust the horizontal direction, the holes present on the rail clip are usually longer and the vertical adjustment can be realised by the addition of rail pads under the rail. There must be sufficient rigidity while designing the clip of crane rails. The size of the force is responsible for deciding whether the clip of the crane rail must be made into a single hole or a double hole.

When the rail is connected to the support beam or the steel plate that is connected to the beam by the welding process. The car gear is often welded to the track. The crane rail installation method for clip fixing is done by:

• Hook bolt fixing: In this method holes are drilled on the web of crane rails and these are fixed with hook bolts. In the case of a steel beam structure, the width of the base plate should not be more than 400 millimetres or the length of the hook bolt should be too long and reduction in the firmness of the fixation.

• The welding and bolt joint fixing: At first it is necessary to weld the soleplate to the bottom of the crane rail. After this, the part of the support beam must be lifted and fixed on the anchor bolt. This complete procedure must be completed with great precision of the installation of rail anchor and welding of the soleplate. Failure to follow these procedures can lead to wrong alignments of the holes and bolts that would make the process of installation difficult.
