Why You Must Walk in for STD Testing Without Delay?

by Patrick Ward Walk in Urgent Care Clinic
Millions of people are affected by sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) every year; many die. Reasons for rampant spread of STDs, as quoted by doctors, are carelessness, ignorance, and hesitation to talk about the disease. STDs usually come attached with social stigma. In most societies, people even fear they would be ostracized by the society if they are tested positive for a disease and people found out!

Such fear leads to silence…and silence may lead to death.

Need of the hour

The need of the hour is to take a strong take on your sexual health. Awareness about sexually transmitted diseases is growing; yet the mentality refuses to budge, though we can see the modern crowd taking their sexual health seriously. They walk in for STD testing without hesitation, for they are concerned about their health and their partner’s.

However, this forms only a small chunk of the population, who can simply walk in and get themselves tested. A larger chunk still sits in fear of stigma.

With the advent of STD clinics in central locations, testing for STDs is, no more, an embarrassing task. This is because the clinics offer anonymous testing. You can simply walk in, ask for a test, and do the billing without revealing your identity. The staff at the clinic understand your embarrassment and keep your identity confidential.

What to do when you think you are exposed?

When you believe you are exposed, talk to your doctor about it. Every STD has an incubation period. So, you may not want to undergo a test immediately after having unprotected sex. Know the incubation period and then undergo a test for accurate results.

A doctor will tell you the best time to undergo tests for a specific sexually transmitted disease such as Chlamydia or Gonorrhea.

How to undergo a test?

Many people hesitate to undergo a test simply for the fear of “what will happen there?” STD testing takes just 10 minutes of your precious time. The best part is you need not take a prior appointment when you walk in an urgent care clinic. You can visit the clinic on any day of the week, even on holidays, and ask for a test.

The doctor usually asks patients to provide their urine sample, or swab, or blood sample, depending on the disease you wish to undergo test for. In some cases, doctor may conduct a pelvic examination for women.

Clinics offer testing and treatment on the same day.

Who should undergo test?

  • Any sexually active male or female must undergo a test once in a while to ensure they are safe.
  • People indulging in high-risk sexual behaviors should test themselves regularly.
  • Men who have sex with men are at a higher risk of contracting deadly diseases, so they must undergo a test regularly.
  • You must undergo a test whenever you have unprotected sex with a new partner.

It is important to insist your partner to undergo a test. It’s useless to test yourselves and then again have unprotected sex with somebody who has never been tested.

So, walk in for STD testing today and break away from the chains of social stigma, shyness, embarrassment, and “what people will say?”
