Why students prefer studying in Australia
Australia
is a vast country but is very sparsely populated. The climate is hospitable and
the infrastructure is very well developed. These are some reasons that make
many Indians opt to study in Australia. In addition, it is home to a few
universities which figure in the top 100 educational institutions in the world.
Therefore, a student who has a degree from a top Australian institution has higher
chances of landing a good job.
A
major plus is that its education sector is constantly monitored by its federal
government. Above all, foreign students in Australia are treated very well.
Unlike
three decades ago, it is not unusual for an average Indian household to dream
of sending at least one of their children abroad. Earlier, the US and the UK
were the most preferred countries, but now many Indians prefer pursuing their
studies in Australia.
There
are many reasons which have caused this shift from the West to the country Down
Under. Among some are that studying Australia
is more affordable compared to the US and the UK. For instance, a master’s
degree in management is much lesser in this country in the Southern Hemisphere
when compared to its counterparts in the West.
While
the US dollar is close to around 67 Indian rupees, the Australian dollar is
about 52 rupees. An undergraduate course in Australia costs anywhere between
$10,000 and $18,000 a year and the cost of a graduate programme is pegged
between $11,000 and $19,000 a year. Expenses that a student would incur on
living there would cost a minimum of $10,000. But one can cover a portion of
their expenses as Australia allows students to work part-time and universities
offer scholarships to meritorious students.
Since
English is the native language of Australia, it would not be difficult for
Indian students to adjust there. It also offers a high quality of life, which
is why many people studying in Australia come from different nations from
across the world. Lots of sports and leisure activities can be availed by
international students. Importantly, it is a safe and secure country where
foreign nationals can pursue their studies peacefully.
