Why Mykonos is the Ideal Holiday Destination of our Times!

by Claire M. Working at Louis Hotels

Mykonos is equivalent to paradise. The glistening blue waters peacefully washing against golden soft sands, stunning sunsets, sizzling hot temperatures, exquisite Greek cuisine, beautiful scenery and refreshing sea breezes define Mykonos! In Mykonos there is never a dull moment. On the island you can go on shopping sprees, hiking and trekking quests, engage in water sports, visit ancient ruins and dance till you drop literally all day and night long! It comes as no surprise that Mykonos is preferred by all as their dream holiday destination!

Sandy Beaches

The island’s coatline has been made for beach life. the island offers a diverse scene of bays, including party hubs, where the party sets off well before the sun goes down, to unmanned natural stretches, where visitors enjoy scenic landscapes, green-blue waters that sparkle like stars and serene settings. Celebrities tend to over-crowd Psarou Beach. Psarou Beach is an elegant-like beach, lined with comfy sun beds and shady umbrellas. The view of the sea and the sound of the waves are just the cherry on the cake.

As locals so often willingly tell you, Mykonos is home to 365 chapels and churches, one for each day of the year. I have never counted them, but truth is, they seem to be growing and sprouting everywhere! The island’s most preferred church is Panagia Paraportiani, the oldest church standing. This ancient church was built during the Byzantine period, whereas its ecclesiastical icons and decorations seem to originate from the Middle Ages. The best time to pay a church a visit is at dusk, right when the colours in the sky fuse and light up the heavens as the sun is dipping into the infinite blue. The whole view can only be described as a true spiritual experience.

Romance

Pictures of Little Venice have travelled all around the world. The famed romantic neighbourhood of Chora simply exudes romance and puts, even the most discerned and sceptical, in the mood for some loving!

Little Venice is made up of a line of Venetian homes, with balconies literally hanging over the blue-green sea. According to locals, the homes were built by sea captains, who after a long life at sea decided to settle down in Mykonos. What few admit is that the ship captains were actual pirates, who built their homes right on the edge of the sea so as to easily unload the cargo they stole! Today the two-story homes have been turned into enchanting and colourful nightclubs, cafes and shops!

There is more to Mykonos to what meets the eye. When travelling to the island, make it a priority to visit as many sites as you can, hop to as many bays as you can, and try as many new activities you have time to! You are bound to fall in love with this magical Cycladic gem, as so many before you have and will continue to! Mykonos is love.
