Why Monitoring Home Air Quality Is So Important

by Yashi Ganguly Writer

As the smog intensifies and engulfs are cities, the concern for air pollution also becomes more pronounced. Indeed not many people cared a couple of years ago about the air quality only a handful of NGOs ran the campaign to have the clean air in the cities by introducing the CNG instead of diesel.  Today, pollution is a hot topic. In television debates, in print media articles and of course on the Google searches, pollution tops the charts.  The awareness about pollution has no doubt improved but unfortunately, it is not backed by some concrete action on the part of governments and private entrepreneurs who still see it as a seasonal phenomenon which comes every year with winter and goes away with spring. That is so wrong.

It may not be that visible in other seasons but the ill effects of pollution are everywhere to see. Just go to any hospital and ask the doctor about the number of people who visit them for respiratory diseases and you would be shocked to know the statistics. Indeed the pollution is taking a heavy toll on people’s health; the children, old-aged people, and even the weak people are the most likely victims of pollution. Not that it leaves the healthy that have to bear with irritation of nose, throat, ears, and eyes initially and gradually start showing symptoms of respiratory diseases.

This is a health emergency situation if you go by European standards. Most of the European countries would stop all business activity, shut down shops and schools and offices when the Air Quality Index touches 400-marks. But here in India life goes on as usual with a few people trying to cope with pollution by tying a handkerchief on their nose!

To take on pollution head on you must be rational and willing rather than in a denial mode. When you are outdoors the only effective means of fighting pollution is wearing an anti-pollution mask like a Respokare mask which is one of the best anti-pollution masks in the world. It not only saves you from the particulate matter of 2.5 microns but also is effective against toxic gases in the atmosphere like nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide. Apart from this Respokare mask is N99 certified so you are assured of its quality. It is being marketed and sold by cleanairstore.in in India, the company that has a good reputation in selling quality products that offer protection against pollution.

Apart from this you could also consider buying Laser Egg, a portable air quality monitor for your home which gives a precise reading of the PM 2.5 levels in your home. It may come as shock but the fact remains that your home could be as or even more polluted than outside. The reason is that there are a number of things in your house that are constantly contaminating your home air like VOC,s cleaning agent, bacteria and viruses that are growing in damp conditions, kitchen smoke and so on. Indeed once you have air quality monitor in your home you could monitor your home air quality and if it is beyond permissible limit of 150 you could prepare yourself to deal with it.
