Why is ghee healthier or better than butter?

by Pallavi Goswami content writer

Ghee and butter are both praised for their healthy fat components in the nutrition world. But when we compare ghee with butter, we find several significant differences. Is ghee healthier than butter? Let's compare these two different dairy items and try to understand which one is better. Ghee and butter are often used interchangeably. But health-conscious people use ghee as a butter replacement.

Let's see what the reasons are -

  • Ghee is rich in nutrients: When compared to butter, ghee offers a higher concentration of fat and calories. It contains essential vitamins like A, D, E, and K. The presence of conjugated linoleic acid or CLA in ghee can help in reducing gut inflammation.

  • Ghee is dairy-free: Butter can trigger allergic reactions among lactose-intolerants. But ghee contains negligible amounts of lactose and casein, which is safe for all.

  • Ghee high smoke point: People choose ghee over butter due to its high smoke point. Ghee acts better for high-temperature cooking purposes whereas butter burns quickly.

There are several other reasons describing why is ghee better than butter. Ghee is a more flavorful version of butter and is  almost 100% pure butterfat. When comparing ghee vs butter on the basis of usability, ghee comes out to be better than butter. You can have ghee with bread, rice, pasta, fries and even desserts.
