Why Inpatient Treatment is the Most Effective Treatment for Substance Abuse

by Luxury Rehab Drug and alcohol rehab

If you are looking at treatment options for your substance abuse problem, then you’ve taken the first and most difficult step in the recovery process.

Now, you are trying to decide which treatment options are right for you. There are many options to choose from, such as informal outpatient treatments, formal outpatient treatments, and inpatient treatments.

It can be overwhelming and stressful to make such an important decision. While all treatment options are beneficial to some extent, when considering what treatment option is right for you, keep in mind the unique benefits of the inpatient treatment option.

New Environment

Inpatient treatment takes you out of your normal environment and puts you in a controlled and insulated environment with other patients who are trying to recover from addiction and substance abuse

Inpatient facilities take you out of your old routine, which revolved around thinking about, seeking out and consuming the substance that you are addicted to, and gives you a new routine.

These facilities remove external distractions and reminders of your previous lifestyle. This method is incredibly beneficial, because it is proven that it is difficult to fully recover in the environment and lifestyle you were living in while abusing a substance.

Increased Support

A benefit of choosing inpatient treatment is the increased support that you receive from other patients.

Typically, addicts who choose to seek inpatient treatment are more committed to recovery than those who seek informal and formal outpatient treatment options. It’s difficult and scary to pause your life and move into a controlled environment, and it is easy to see why people who choose to recover in facilities are more committed.

As a result, they are more willing to help you and support when you are struggling to adapt to inpatient life and if you are wavering in your commitment to getting better.

Even more, since you are all living together it is likely that you will form close relationships with other patients, and it is likely that they will continue to support and inspire you outside of the facility, as well.

Long-Lasting Effects

Not only do inpatient facilities help you while you are inside, they set you up for success when you are discharged, as well.

Often, inpatient facilities have a program to help you transition from the controlled inside world they curated to the outside world, which can often be unpredictable and more trying than inpatient facilities.

During this transition, inpatient facilities help set you up with external therapists and physicians to allow you continue to have the level of the care that was effective for you.

The best way that inpatient facilities set you up for long-term success is through the gradual lifestyle changes they help you make throughout your entire stay. They slowly but surely teach you new habits for every aspect of everyday life. They advise you on how to be better from the second you wake up in the morning to the time you go to bed.

Since these lifestyle changes are so beneficial inside, you will be excited and able to maintain them in the outside world.

So, if you are struggling to pick a treatment option, think of all the benefits offered by inpatient facilities that outpatient treatments can simply not offer.
