Why Dubai Is An Increasingly Promising Hub For Artificial Intelligence Firms

by Liz Seyi Digital marketing manager

On the cusp of May, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) city of Dubai hosted the first-ever AI Everything summit, where more than 130 experts from over 80 countries gathered to discuss the beneficial effects that artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to bring to our everyday lives.

The summit itself is one of the most promising signs that Dubai itself is developing into a veritable hotspot for companies forging solutions from AI. Here are some further reasons to consider choosing Dubai as the location for your AI business.

The success of the inaugural AI Everything summit

AI Everything saw governments, businesses and social enterprises meet up to discuss how innovation and investment could help start-ups and policymakers to unlock the indisputably rich potential of AI. Could your Dubai business play its own part in this burgeoning industry?

The omens look good. The UAE’s National Program for Artificial Intelligence organised the two-day event with the intended means of strengthening the country’s technology credentials in the Middle East and drawing new investments to the AI sector.

"It's a much bigger success than we anticipated," Omar Al Olama, the UAE minister of artificial intelligence toldCNBC, adding: "We're not looking at artificial intelligence for the sake of artificial intelligence, we're looking at artificial intelligence for the sake of creating value".

There's already a trail for your tech start-up to follow

"AI and robotics are in the early stages in Dubai or in the general Middle East. It is a new frontier for the region and that makes things very exciting," Dr Ben Goertzel, the chief executive of pioneering robotics firm SingularityNET, has told UAE press outlet The National.

It's understandable, then, why the Amsterdam-headquartered company behind Sophia – widely considered the world's most expressive humanoid robot – has announced a plan to open a Dubai-based research and business development unit.

We anticipate that SingularityNET's example could inspire many other tech firms to expand into Dubai, thereby feeding a flourishing AI scene in the UAE's most populous city.
