Why do people go to the Chernobyl exclusion zone?

by Oliver P. Hard Work is the Guarantee of Success

On the night of April 26, 1986, two thermal explosions occurred, with the subsequent destruction of the 4th reactor of the Chernobyl NPP. Because the destruction had an explosive character, a large amount of radioactive substances were thrown into the air. The catastrophe is considered to be the biggest and the most terrifying in the history of nuclear energy, in terms of the number of victims from its consequences, ecological effects and economic losses.

So why the place, that is the symbol of the biggest nuclear tragedy of mankind, has become a famous and popular destination for tourists? Everyone can have their own reason, why they decided to visit Chernobyl.  For someone, it is an opportunity to see the Soviet city without the usual rhythm of life, road traffic, crowded with people streets, big and modern shopping centers, city banners and advertisements; for someone, it is a chance to visit the area of the world's largest nuclear catastrophe and see the consequences of past events and for someone, Chernobyl trips is interesting in terms of science, because nature and animals are developing, and scientists often think about the question: what will happen to the city, if people leave it for a very long time. There are people, who just fans of everything that connected with Chernobyl, such as games, movies, photo and video materials and different kind of articles. And their dream is to get to the exclusion zone and see it with their own eyes.

Preservation of Chernobyl as a cultural heritage site

The 4th reactor, Chernobyl and Pripyat cities, abandoned villages, military secret objects and Chernobyl vehicle graveyard — these destinations are in the biggest demand among tourists during Chernobyl tours. Despite many negative factors, catastrophe had a lot of positive effects for the development of the territory. Today, Chernobyl is considered as the largest open-air museum. There is no such place in the world that can be compared to Chernobyl.  The number of travel companies that organize tours to the exclusion zone is increasing every year. And Gamma Travel, as one of such agencies, can provide quality services and meet the needs of their clients.

But in order to preserve the territory and for further development of tourism, Chernobyl area needs the status of a national park or reserve. Then, there will be the rules, which would not allow the vandals to steal and destroy everything that left there, and an opportunity to provide official status of world cultural heritage site.

Chernobyl is one of the main reasons why foreign tourists come to Ukraine. And such trip is relatively safe concerning radiation and its effects. However, the danger may be in half-destroyed houses or in increasing the number of uncontrolled animals and developing wildlife, which at the same time can be both — an advantage and a risk factor for people, who decided to experience such trip personally. The cost of such trip depends on the size of groups and on the number of days of staying in the exclusion zone.
