by Sneha Chawla Best Immigration Consultants

India is at the heart of the progress that Canada has witnessed. One of the most well-known tales of global education has been and continues to be the increase of students moving to Canada from India.

Today, we'll be delving into the data to discover why students choose moving to Canada from India, what job prospects are open to them after graduation, and where they enrol in classes when they get there.

India, which has one of the greatest populations of young adults (aged 18 to 23) worldwide, has led the growth of talent internationally during the past ten years. In 2021, there will be about 126,000 students moving to Canada from India, up from 39,000 in 2016.

It is evident that Indian students are selecting Canada because more than one-third of all international students in the country come from India.

Where Indian Students are Studying?

We can observe that the nations have different trajectories if we compare the increase of the student population moving to Canada from India, the US, and the UK during the previous five years.

Although there were 18% fewer Indian students in Canada for the 2020–21 academic year, there was a sharp rise in the number of Indian students there in 2021. Nearly 126,000 students were approved for moving to Canada from India in 2021. This broke the previous record set in 2019 of 110,000.

In reality, 42% of all study visa approvals in 2021 went to students from India. In comparison to 2020 and 2019, this was 1 percentage point lower and 9 percentage points greater, respectively.

A greater acceptance rate for students applying through the Student Direct Stream (SDS) than other candidates to study in Canada. If international students achieve specific requirements, such as the IELTS score for Canada PR, SDS will accelerate the processing of their Canadian student permit.

Indian students submitted 95% of all SDS applications in 2021. India had the biggest approval rate differential between SDS and non-SDS candidates, with a 47 percentage point difference between the two student groups.

PG Work Opportunities Draw Indian Students to Canada

International students frequently choose Canada as their study abroad location because of its favorable reputation. Four out of every five recruiting partners, according to a recent poll, highly agreed with the statement "Canada is open and friendly to overseas students."

The nation is renowned for its generous Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWP), which entices international students to study and work there. The program offers significant job experience to international students, and graduates who achieve specific requirements, such as the IELTS score for Canada PR, can apply for permanent residency (PR). 97.5% of international graduates who requested for permanent residency in Canada in 2021 were granted their requests.

The reputation for immigration openness in Canada is being further cemented by new government measures. Nearly 130,000 previous holders of study permits received approval for permanent residency in 2021. Of those overseas graduates, 40,000 were a member of a temporary track. The fact that the English stream was so popular that it filled up in a single day, however, augurs well for its return.

Canada proposed measures last month that will allow students with PGWPs that expire in 2022 to stay in the country for an extra 18 months while their PR applications are being processed. Although not all PGWP holders and international grads are affected, the news is a critical step in assisting more international students to realise their ambition of becoming Canadian citizens.

Beyond their choice of destination location, we can track the preferences of students moving to Canada from India by looking at the academic discipline they choose. The information below reveals the areas of study that Indian students select.

Business Programs Attract Indian Students to Canada

In 2021, study permits for post-secondary students were authorised for 40% of business and management majors. In 2019, this increased by five percentage points.

Indian overseas students have a very promising future in Canada. The COVID-19 epidemic affected the steadily expanding numbers of Indian students in Canada, but the Indian market has since recovered well. The robust revival of Canada's international education sector is centered on Indian students.
