White Oak Flooring v/s Red Oak Flooring

by Keemo John Best Services Provider

Oak hardwood has been a premium choice for wooden flooring from time immemorial. The availability and durability make it a favourable option among other wood material. With proper installation and maintenance, it stays in perfect condition for more than 100 years.

The species of Oak hardwood

Oak is a readily available wood with a much environment-friendly approach. At present, it has two distinct species available - Red Oak and White Oak.  Both types are well-known options for Wood Flooring and sustain all the essential parameters for being a good flooring material.

But as there has to be a winner, these differ based on a few factors, which this blog will discuss further. The differentiation between the two types will be based on details and features present in White Oak and Red Oak.

Colour differentiation

White Oak: The White Oak may have white in its name, but nowhere the colour is white. On the contrary, it is on the darker side and has brown and yellow tans. So factually, it is even darker than the Red Oak.

Red Oak: Red Oak has red and pinkish tones. It is quite at a lighter side compared to White Oak, and the difference can even be diminished after staining. So, if you wish to get the first one ata lesser cost, staining Red Oak can fulfil the job.

Degree of hardness

White Oak: The white type of Oak wood is considered slightly harder than red measures 1360 onJanka scale. By virtue of this feature, it is vitally used either outside or inside the kitchen and bathroom.

Red Oak: The red type of Oak wood measures 1290 on Janka Scale and considered less hard than the white type. It cannot withstand seasonal changes superficially, whether used as hardwood flooring or Engineered Wood Flooring.

Grain pattern differentiation

White Oak: No matter whether both are the same species, but grain pattern on each makes the difference visible. The red one has more grain with deviation and swirls, whereas the white one has less grain with a more uniform look.

Red Oak: Red Oak hasquite open and porous grain, which impart it a non-uniform look. Due to open grain, it absorbs stain nicely and remains sturdy throughout the lifespan than White Oak.

Resistance to water

White Oak: It is more resistant to water due to closed grain.

Red Oak: It is feebly resistant to water due to open grain.

While both differ on different factors, you can still consider them for installing as wood flooring. For better price and quality, reach out toEcoHardwood
