by Piccadily India Consultant
Whiskey is often considered as a drink for the real men but getting that right taste is often a daunting task. There are a lot of brands, terms, and varieties of the drink that is enough to make the beginner confused about the taste. There are various researches done to determine the best taste of whiskey and there are scientific evidences that show whiskey tastes better when mixed with water. The next time when you decide to have that peg of whiskey don’t forget to add a splash of water to optimize the flavor of the spirits. When water is added then you get a blend of a smooth, and a smoky flavored drink. This is the proof of the fact that water improves the taste of the drink. We will further look into the detailed reason behind the fact.

According to the scientists there are two theories that explain the reasons behind the smooth taste of the drink when water is added to them.

The first theory suggests that adding water to whiskey simply traps the particles that are unpleasant in taste. The complete explanation of the theory suggests that the molecules released to the drink by adding water results in the uniform taste and increase in the flavors of the drink. This happens due to the fact that water and ethanol do not form uniform mixture. This results into the trapping of aromatic compounds into clusters of ethanol which do not reach the surface. Our tongue has taste buds that are capable of identifying the flavors that are sweet, salty, sour, bitter and savory hence the aroma plays an important role in determining the flavors that are present in the glass of blended malt whiskey.

The second theory states that there is more to this aspect than these three substances it states that whiskey is a complicated mixture of hundreds of compounds that end up giving it the desired tastes and aroma. Hence this theory ensures that the whiskey tastes better because diluting it results in evaporation of various aromas that are unwanted hence the taste becomes more stabilized. There are various blended whiskey brands that provide different flavors and taste option in the whiskey.

At the end of the day the individual choices matters, hence it is better to have whiskey the way you like. The taste is what matters the most.

The article gives an insight to the reasons behind the change in the taste of whiskey.
